The black market is open with the prices doubled on all assault rifles as soon the bill is signed.
AR-15's are selling for over $2000 at the local gunstores already |

Is that a bad thing, or a good thing??? Raising the black market price of a $600 used gun to $1200 or even $2000 would in itself limit guns to many criminals or many of the mentally ill. Had Adam Lanza, or similar shooters been forced to come up with $2000 for a black market AR15, shootings like the Sandy Hook School may never happen. |

This law is about 'closing loopholes' that allow criminals to easily buy guns... Isn't that what all of us want?
This law is nothing about that. When over 80% of gun crimes are committed with an illegally obtained gun, this law is window dressing and nothing more. |

NY State has strict gun laws... most of the guns used in crimes in NY come from out of state... a crime in itself. Federal laws similar to NY gun laws, would be very effective in reducing gun violence Some states are in the business of making money selling guns to export to NY. |

LOL... Take a business course sometime, will ya?? The black market will LOWER the price of guns, not raise them. In the black market, there are no storefronts, advertising costs, or taxes to pay...man, you really ARE naive. As far as Adam Lanza, the NYS law would have done NOTHING to prevent Newtown. His mother would have still had the guns he stole, and used. |

You just explained why this law or any other law, will do very little to reduce gun crime. If it's illegal in NYS, the guns will come from other states...if it's illegal in the entire country, the guns will come from out of the Country... see illegal drugs and how well our laws are working there. |

Her guns should have been locked... and if they were she and many others would still be alive today. Allowing gun access to the mentally ill, should be a crime. |

.
Basic business 101... reduce supply, the price goes up... both in the legal market and in the black market. |

Bullshit...When you don't have legitimate business expenses to worry about, the price will stay the same. Basic Business 101+ - when there is enough demand and one supply channel dries up, another one takes over...Obama and Cuomo just gave a stimulus package to Central America, Russia, and North Korea... |

But they weren't... The section of the NYS law dealing with the securing of weapons in the home isn't worth the paper it's written on....it's impossible to enforce proactively.. it will only be enforced post mortem. |

With Drugs, when there is a big drug bust in an area, the price of drugs goes up. Illegal substances (or guns) work on supply and demand just like any other product. If you are sitting on a huge stash of heroine, (or guns) and the market is suddenly depleted by a drug bust (or gun law) the price will rise immediately unless supply resumes. |

So we agree, the gun laws need to do more. Mandatory gun locks with each gun sold would be a first step. |

Sure, if you wish...but with the wonderful ban, we shouldn't need it , right?? And, golly gee, what do we do with the 300 million or so already out in the streets? |

Gun stores give them out for free to those who want them, NY state has troopers who attend the gunshows who also hand them out for free, it is up to the owner if they wish to use them or not. |
