Yea! Prayers in school would have stopped this shooting... Um.... Ask the five little girls shot to death at West Nickel Mines Amish School in Pennsylvania. They should have prayed harder to live.
Where did I say PRAYER Box?... I said Huck had a point on basic human decency. You will NEVER stop a human vice by taking away the instrument. You work on the reason for the need to commit the vice. We've tried to stop drug abuse by eliminating the instrument...Billions spent and it hasn't worked. You can take away all the casinos and lottery games tomorrow and you won't cure the gambling addiction. Addicts will bet on cockroaches in a alley if that is all they have. The result of our free society is people have opportunity to hurt themselves and others. You can't totally eliminate that without eliminating the free society. |

I look at Canada, Germany and Australia as a "free society"... yet they don't have any where near the problem we do in the USA. Active Shooter Incidents 1966 - 2010 NYPD Data US- 237 CANADA - 8 GERMANY - 6 AUSTRALIA - 5 Are they just 'better people" than we in the USA? |

No, but their cultures aren't even close... The entertainment center of the world with it's violence is the USA The Chief consumers of violent video games is the USA The Country has the biggest illegal drug and violence problem is the USA The country that has the loosest mental health regulations is the USA. Our country is the free-est by far, and its not even close. |

...the deaths of these innocents will be used to demagog gun ownership generally is arguably more so. For our rights – our liberties – are everything. Without them, our lives are nothing more than biological datum. We exist – but we do not live. Because it is not living when your life is controlled by others (those “others” being the people who control the machinery and enforcement apparatus of government) … when your freedom of action is denied, limited, constrained…. not because of any harm you’ve caused.
But because someone else caused harm. And worse, because someone else might cause harm.
For which you are to be held presumptively responsible.frisk 1
It is the logic – no, poor word choice there. It is the justification used for every abridgement of liberty we’ve suffered in recent memory. Someone might drive drunk. Therefore, anyone who happens to be out driving must submit to being treated as presumptively drunk driving – until they’ve demonstrated otherwise, to the satisfaction of armed and costumed goons. There might be a terrorist at the airport. So millions of innocent people trying to get someplace must submit to being handled – literally – as presumptive terrorists by armed, costumed goons. Purchase “too much” Sudafed – and you are presumed to be a confector of arbitrarily illegal “drugs.” And treated accordingly by armed, costumed goons – despite your having done nothing.
That someone else might have done something is sufficient warrant to assume you did – or are about to.
And to treat you as if you already had.
There’s no end to it – because it’s open-ended. If “someone” might do something then certainly any of us could be that someone.
A free society cannot withstand this.
Which is exactly why this country is no longer free.
Yet few people see the connection. If Smith can be restrained – punished – because of the actions of Jones… because of the potential actions of Jones – then Smith is not free. Moral hazard – the notion that each of us ought to bear the consequences of our actions (not the actions of others) is the ethical basis of a free society. Punishment before you, as an individual, have done anything to anyone – in other words, the application of random, arbitrary aggressive violence against a peaceful person – is the sine qua non of unfree societies.http://ericpetersautos.com/2012/12/15/get-ready/ |

Massachusetts tightened its gun laws a few years ago and the result: licensed gun ownership fell 80% and gun-related crimes INCREASED 200%.
The horrific tragedy in Newtown, CT is (IMHO) more a result of a failure of the mental health system and the values system in our country. A nation that can seemingly accept without flinching the killing of 50,000,000 pre-born human babies since 1973 -- shouldn't be surprised that some members of society think nothing of taking a gun (or some other lethal weapon/instrument) to a school or a mall or a movie theater to kill as many people as they can. |

Free? Free to starve. Free to die from lack of health care. Free to be homeless due to mental illness. Free to be exploited. Free to get shot by the NRA sponsored crazies. |

I have seen no evidence that any of these mass murderers were members of the NRA or were sponsored by the NRA .. as Box claims. |

" My Thinking???" I support the 2nd amendment, but not the right to own rocket launchers, hand grenades, or tanks. How would you defend yourself from a tank coming up your driveway tonight??? Of course we don't have tanks, but with your view, you might NEED a tank so instead of outlawing them, you'd make them available for "home defense". Soon we'll all escalate to nukes on the front lawn. Sister-in law, Marsha Lanza, told the Chicago Sun-Times that Nancy Lanza wanted guns for protection. “She prepared for the worst,” Instead her guns were used to CREATE THE WORST, used on herself and 20 little children. |

I didn't claim that they were members of the NRA... The NRA doesn't represent any private citizen, it represents the Arms industry and Chemical industry. The NRA cares not who gets shot as long as Americans keep buying guns. Eventually this school shooting will lead legislators to look at gun laws, and the NRA will use the fear that guns will be limited to SELL MORE GUNS! The Obama presidency was a gold mine for the NRA. They just had to whisper that "Obama will take your guns" and petrified gun nuts would run from their bank to their gun dealer to "Stock Up Before Obama Takes Away Our Guns." See: "Obama's re-election drives gun sales"CNN Money http://money.cnn.com/2012/11/09/news/economy/gun-control-obama/index.html |

FREE TO MAKE YOUR OWN FU(KING EFFORT AND FREE TO PAVE YOUR OWN FU(KING ROAD IN LIFE.... what you fail to see is that those 1%ers who you seem to think are not paying their fair share are the same 1%ers who apparently have a more reasonable line that you will bed with,,,,they control your food supply, they control your water supply, they control the diagnosis for the medication you think you need, they control big bird, they control your thumbprint at the bank, they control what they deem is 'poor'/'rich' and at what level you 'deserve their assistance etc etc etc...... oh yeah, they make us free......it's volunteer army and it's volunteer survival...... if you think being 'free' is having a fluffy pillow bed chosen for you by those 1%ers who are more reasonable than you or I, you made your bed. |
