Labrador to undergo human heart surgery
A labrador with a rare heart malformation is to undergo a 3,000-euro (£2,400) human heart surgery in a top Paris hospital, following a Facebook campaign to save his life.

Veterinary surgeons at Maison-Alfort in Paris said that an operation to repair a ruptured artery in nine-month-old Lycka was technically too difficult to succeed.

But instead of opting to put the dog down, they contact surgeons at the Montsouris hospital – for humans – in Paris's 14th arrondissement.

With the technical expertise acquired for tricky operations on human hearts, the surgeons said they were confident of success with Lycka and agreed to operate for free.

"This operation is not usually done on animals. So surgeons for humans will operate Lycka," said Orianne Vatin, spokesman for the French Society for the Protection of Animals, SPA.

Despite the doctor's offer to waive payment, the operation will still cost 3,000 euros to conduct as "the only technique that can save him uses cutting-edge technology and so is very costly," said the SPA.............................................>>>>................................................>>>>................................ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/new.....n-heart-surgery.html
