I am glad we are exiting Afghanistan. I thought Oil War I, Americas military intrusion into the gulf in a 'land war' capacity was a mistake. Ditto Oil War II. Selective strikes OK.
No one wins in Afghanistan, that is a fact of history not understood by the British, Russians & Americans. Even Alexander The Great while passing through the region to India could see the tribes of Afghanistan could not be brought under control - nor conquered.
When the Russians arrived in Afghanistan in 1980 the Tribes were using WWI British Lee Enfield, .303 rifles. At high altitude shooting down the old Enfield could take a Rusky out at long range. America, CIA, provided the Tribes with stingers & other weapons. Ivan went home with his tail between his legs. Now the Americans face left over Rusy hardware. It seems the Tribes understand gorilla warefare, living off ones enemy's better than the Red Army, the brain trust of West Point & Georgetown.
America will exist Afghanistan soon. What we leave behind will be added to booty from Libya & turned against the Russians. The Russian Army is forming action battalions to deal with something bad coming their way.
One of two things will happen soon with regard to Israel. Israel will prevail militarily & put the Muslim extremist off their game. Buy US some time. Israel will be overwhelmed, some stabs in the back & be no more. Then the Obama administration will not have to deal with it's 'Jewish Problem'. Win, win for America - maybe.
It is always "too soon to thank God". These are dangerous times & December 21, 2012 - the Mayan thing could throw everyone's calculations off.
