From the Wall Street Journal:
The company, which filed for Chapter 11 in January, said it has requested bankruptcy-court authorization to close the business and sell its assets.
"A victim of changing consumer tastes, high commodity costs and, most importantly, strained labor relations." Why is this company all of a sudden going out of business??? Because they can make more money turning this company around (Note To Bain & Mitt Romney) "The CEO, a restructuring professional who ascended to the top of the company after its former leader abruptly resigned earlier this year, said the liquidation will take months but require few workers.
When you want to close a company, restructure it's resources and grab all available CASH... you need a "scapegoat", a "plausible excuse" to proceed. You cut Union contracts until they strike, and you have a ready made excuse... especially when you can pit one union against another.
Twinkies will continue to be for sale in the USA, at a slightly higher price, and a much higher profit.

Bullshit...and I edited your quoted post to only include the part that was ACTUALLY in the wall street journal, the rest was just your babble.... Hostess AGREED on a new contract with the Teamsters in September..it was the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union , the second largest Union at Hostess, that struck. Many of those union members deified the strike and crossed the picket line in the last few days, but not enough did. Bottom line: If the Union reps didn't order a strike, the people would have their jobs.... This is clearly in the Union leadership's lap. |

Just like your boy Cuomo did with PEF and CSEA Unions, right??? The difference being, CSEA realized Cuomo wasn't bluffing and they agreed to a contract with an entity in financial difficulty...sounds like the same thing to me. |

This company could have struggled along making a profit and providing jobs. Everyone could have made a living and profited. Instead the CEO resigned and the sharks took over. They will slice and dice this business until the only thing left is a marginal operation providing minimum wage non union jobs, and a huge sum of $$$ for those liquidating the business. The process isn't new... it's a well proven formula for an 'asset grab'. You don't think today's 1% get that rich selling cookies do you??? |

LOL... You don't end up in bankruptcy court for making a profit....and this was the companies 2nd filing, so things were not rosy..the bottom line is most of the 18,500 hostess employees won't have a job soon. If the Union agreed to the cuts and the company still went under??? Then, that is clearly on management...but they didn't and they now get to share in the blame. |

Hostess has revenues of about $2 billion per year. (the reason for the 'asset grab')
Rayburn placed the immediate blame largely on Hostess' bakers union... But Rayburn also acknowledged to CNBC that "management was poor."
The Union is doing it's job... but WITH ADMITTED 'POOR MANAGEMENT', it would almost appear that the company wants to go into bankruptcy... That is the plan! |

Revenues do not equal profit... if they did, GM wouldn't have needed to be bailed out. You can spin it any way you want...management drew a line in the sand, the Union thought they called their bluff, they were wrong... 18,500 first time filers for unemployment will be the result. |

shut the doors today.............open under a new corp name tomorrow.........hire non union.................it's done all the time!!!!! (that's if it's a union issue) was just done to a large union warehousing corp in NJ and done ALL the time in NYS!! It's an employer's market out there. But not to worry............there will be 18,000 more employed in another country making twinkies soon. It really shouldn't surprise many people that there are businesses all over the ocuntry...both large and small that are selling BEFORE december 31, 2012. There is probably anon-english speaking buyer lined up already. |

No, they did not... The sold them with a lifetime powertrain warranty.. I should know, because I have one. You could purchase a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty, at an additional cost, but it was NOT underwritten by Chrysler. I just had my truck in for it's 5 year no cost inspection to keep the lifetime warranty in effect..I have not been contacted by Chrysler, nor do I expect to. |

~The carpet mills in Amsterdam shut down due to "union demands". That was the excuse at the time. In fact, the carpet mills had already made the decision to move south and were looking to maximize profit before they left. ~The "Bucket Shop", bldg 285 in Schenectady GE, was told that they had to cut costs to compete with foreign competition. The Union agreed... GE had already signed the deal and moved the entire shop to Mexico. The same story over and over... and there are gullible people who believe the propaganda over and over. |
