Rhode Island school cancels father-daughter dance after complaint

A school tradition in Rhode Island is coming to an end. After a complaint, a school there has decided there will be no more father-daughter or mother-son dances.
The American Civil Liberties Union sent the school a letter on behalf of a single mother in Cranston. The woman says her daughter felt left out of father-daughter activities.
Now, school officials say they'll avoid the problem by canceling future father-daughter and mother-son events.
"I truly believe that no one intended to hurt anyone's feelings with this." says Cranston School Superintendent Judith Lundsten. "That they wanted to be inclusive, but that they also like the traditional type of activities."
There has been some backlash after the decision. Some residents say it isn't right for the school to make some students feel left out, while others argue the school should be focusing on more inclusive activities.
