Governor signs piercing bill into law
Print Story Published: 5:25 am Share Updated: 5:26 am

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Body piercing just got a bit more prickly in New York.

Under a law signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, anyone under 18 years old will have to get written permission from their parents or legal guardians before piercing anything on their bodies.

Cuomo and the Legislature overwhelmingly passed the law in June. They say it will reduce infections and the spread of blood-borne diseases. Cuomo said about 20 percent of piercings result in infection............................>>>>..............................>>>>............http://www.fox23news.com/news/.....8NZzT6HA.cspx?rss=39

20% of piercings (a minor event) lead to infections, while a much more invasive abortion has a much lower incidents
of infection.

An abortion can lead to death, see PP gives woman an abortion and woman dies.

Woman dies after tongue pierced

Amanda Taylor fell ill the day after having her tongue pierced.
Ms Taylor was diagnosed with tonsillitis after complaining of a sore throat and swollen tongue.  The inquest
heard she died of blood poisoning after bacteria from the throat infection entered her blood stream through
the piercing.
"A point of entry for the infection was the piercing," stated deputy Gwent coroner, Wendy James.

"Once the organism gets into the blood stream it can cause systemic streptococcus.
"Streptococcus is an extremely potent bacteria which, if it finds itself into the bloodstream, can very
quickly lead to fatal consequences.

And you can die from drinking too much water too, but you don't need parental permission for that...

The point is SERIOUS complications from piercings are rare, but yet they still require parental consent.
Why not abortions?

And from the other side, isn't this an issue of the govt telling a woman what she can do with her body?
Isn't that the prime argument from the pro-choice crowd?
If it is valid for abortions, how can it not be valid for piercings?

If the piercing instrument was long and sharp enough to pierce through a pregnant women's abdomen and puncture the soft skull of the fetus, the liberals would be OUTRAGED that it would be age regulated. This would be just another reason to make the absurd claim of 'war on women'.

This is just another side show at the circus.

It's the how the procedure is done that is the problem and not the actual procedure.
Sounds a lot like when Abortion was illegal and was forced to back alleys, doesn't it?
If so, make the piercing shops licensed and subject to health inspections.
And again, who are we to tell women what they can do with/to their bodies, regardless of age?

Actually, you're wrong on this.  They would welcome it.  In fact, they already do, and they push for it to be a "right," for the woman, not the baby.  Take a look at what is done in what is called "partial-birth abortion."  The only difference is that they don't go through the woman's abdomen, they have the "fetus" head come out and do exactly what you're saying before the baby is "born," hence, it's not a child, it's still that fully formed "clump of cells," so it's OK.

That's what I'm saying...They would be outraged that killing fetus' would be age regulated and require parental consent.  If the Piercing Pagoda was sucking out fetus brains instead of piercing belly buttons, age and parental consent wouldn't be an issue.

Gee, wouldn't putting an age restriction and requiring parental consent force women into the "back alley" getting unsafe body piercings with dirty needles?

Really Cic?  Really?
You haven't learned anything???

OK... I'll play your game.
For the answer to your post question, look up the definition of 'false equivalence'.

Very disappointed.
