"This would seem a moment of great opportunity for California Republicans. The state has become a
national symbol of fiscal turmoil and dysfunction, the Legislature is nearly as unpopular as Congress
and Democrats control every branch of government."

"But instead, the state party... is caught in a cycle of relentless decline, and appears in danger of
shrinking to the rank of a minor party... Registered Republicans now account for just 30% of the
California electorate, and are on a path that analysts predict could drop them to No. 3 in six years,
behind Democrats, who currently make up 43%, and independent voters, with 21%."

(NY Times)

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

yawn.. You could say the same thing about NYS... The demographics aren't that much different.
In fact, with the Hollywood connections and the large Hispanic and AA populations, I'm surprised it's that close in registrations.
Political parties re-invent themselves based on need. The dems did it the late 80's early 90's with the Democratic leadership council. I expect to see the same from the republicans

The 10 States With the Worst Economies In America
The global economic crash hurt everyone, but not equally; here are the states that are feeling the greatest economic pain.
August 30, 2011  |

4. California
The Golden State has long been among the most prosperous states in the nation; if it were a country, its economy would be the world's 8th largest. But while it still accounts for around an eighth of the country's economic output, it had one of the biggest real estate bubbles, and has been hit hard by the downturn. That followed a decline in high-paying manufacturing jobs in the 2000s – California accounted for over 15 percent of the country's exported goods in 2000, but that fell to just over 11 percent in 2008. While Californians enjoy relatively high incomes, they are also badly overextended. With an average of $77,000 in household debt, its citizens lead the nation.

Unemployment rate: 12 percent
Share of unemployed out of work for more than 27 weeks: 46.1 percent
Per capita income: $46,488
Median household net worth, as a percentage of national average: 84 percent
Poverty rate (2008): 13.3 percent
Share of the population without health insurance: 19 percent
Foreclosure rate: 4.4 percent

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Mainstream Republicans are afraid to be associated with the extremists that are taking control of the party.

Republicans... The "Stupid Party"!

Joe Scarborough of the "Morning Joe" show, said that he’s less interested in the question of whether or
not the Republican Party should be a moderate or a conservative party...

“I’m just tired of the Republican Party being the ‘Stupid Party!’” he said, “Stupid people saying stupid
things and scaring off independent voters and swing voters!”

Where are the Republican women?  At this point, even they must be wondering who's driving the bus.  Great new book out "Don't Let the Republicans Drive the Bus."

...says one of the biggest Dem hacks on this board.  And we lock them in the basement, and only allow them to walk, with us, to the voting booths.  Then, it's back to the basement dungeon, where they can work on being stay-at-home moms.

Wealthy Democrats had nothing to do with my post.  The cartoon depicts easily duped Republicans
who vote against their own interest when they elect Republicans who scam them into making them
richer, at their expense.
