That soldier looks a bit young to be fighting in the Revolutionary War.  Or is that cartoon suggesting that troops sent to Iraq and Afghanistan were fighting an enemy that wanted to conquer the United States, and install a new government restricting our freedom of speech?

Cicero keeps confusing the "War" with the "Warrior".   He really doesn't get it.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

This wasn't even about the "Warrior".  This was about a cartoon using the image of a paralyzed soldier to shame a young boy in a public school to pledge allegiance to the flag that sent the once healthy soldier into a pre-emptive war.  And then the teacher lied and said the wounds that paralyzed the soldier were in defense of the boy’s first amendment rights.  It is war propaganda.  It actually disgusts me that this goes on in public schools.

Maybe if more people were like Kevin and didn’t pledge blind allegiance to a flag and QUESTIONED our foreign policy that is killing and wounding our fellow citizens, then maybe just maybe, we would stop sending them on offensive missions to expand the empire.

Would you ask that same question of the government dissenter in 1939 Germany?

Yes I would....dissenters found ways to escape. Not all could, but many wanted to if they were able to.  You are fully able without concerns of Government preventing you...SO ????????????
But I have to say...VERY POOR ANALOGY!!!! If you believe life here is in anyway comparable to life there in 1939, then you really should pack up and go where you believe you wil be happy!

I don't think he hates it but feels the duty to speak out while he has the chance to. There is nothing wrong with dissent, in fact dissent is more patriotic then blind faith into ones own government, what do you think our future holds if people like Cicero doesn't question the actions of our representatives?

"In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, brave, hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a Patriot."

Dissent is a given right...no problem with that.
Finding fault at every turn is a disgruntled member of society.

Those that could escape did...Those that couldn't escape were hunted down and killed.

What do you know about 1939 Germany?

Americans recite a pledge of allegiance staring at a flag with arm bend and hands over our hearts, Germans recited a pledge of allegiance staring at a flag with arm extended and palm down.

The composer of the Pledge of Allegiance is Francis Bellamy was a Christian Socialist.  The original salute to the flag was called the Bellamy Salute, it looks a little like this.
