Planned Parenthood In Pennsylvania May Be Defunded Posted: 05/22/2012 4:54 pm Updated: 05/22/2012 5:36 pm
Pennsylvania State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) will introduce legislation on Wednesday that would defund Planned Parenthood, adding his state to a list of four others that have pending bills to strip public funds from the family planning provider.
Metcalfe's bill, the Whole Woman’s Health Funding Priority Act, would put health care providers that offer abortion services at the bottom of the priority list for state funding. The anti-abortion activist group Susan B. Anthony List and the Alliance Defense Fund co-wrote the bill, which closely resembles the one Arizona lawmakers used to defund Planned Parenthood earlier this year.
Planned Parenthood clinics receive a substantial percentage of their money through state and federal government funding streams, including Medicaid and Titles V, X and XX. The clinics use the funds to offer breast cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, pap smears, maternity care and other medical services for low-income and uninsured patients. None of this money can legally be used to pay for abortions, which make up less than 3 percent of the services Planned Parenthood performs, but anti-abortion activists regularly make the argument that any money the organization receives will indirectly fund abortions...........................>>>>..........................>>>>......................http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/22/planned-parenthood-pennsylvania_n_1537256.html
If you read through the piece, the end result will be that Pennsylvania women will now have to do with out "breast cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, pap smears, maternity care and other medical services for low-income and uninsured patients." All because some religious fanatics want to impose their religious beliefs on the rest of us.
The number of abortions will not be reduced because of this policy.
So for Pennsylvania residents who die from breast cancer, spread STD's, die from preventable uterine cancer, and give birth to an underweight, unhealthy baby because of a lack of prenatal care... They can thank their local anti choice religious fanatics.
Again, we're back to the GOP War On Women!

Don't you love government funding box? All government money has strings attached.
The only service this bill would affect is public funded abortion. If the health care providers like Planned Parenthood eliminate their abortion service, they will be put on the priority list for state funding for the "breast cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, pap smears, maternity care and other medical services for low-income and uninsured patients".
This has nothing to do with "religious fanatics". It has all to do with the allocation of government funds. This bill doesn't criminalize abortion; it doesn't use the coercive power of government to force women to worship one religion or another.
Pull out the ole checkbook box and write a big fat check to the Pennsylvania Planned Parenthood to help fund their abortion service. This bill doesn't prevent you or anybody else from doing that.

As Cicero and everyone else knows, Taxpayer dollars are NOT used to fund abortion services from PP.
The rest is just BS. The Religious fanatics are using taxpayer dollars to coerce PP to drop their abortion services. There is no other provider set up and running now that can replace PP in Pennsylvania. The result??? Pennsylvania women will be denied vital services... something that is not a concern for the anti choice Religious Fanatics.

Well, every THINKING person understands that taxpayer dollars going to PP do in fact fund abortion services. It doesn't take very sophisticated accounting practices move money on paper that gives the appearance the public funds weren't used to fund abortion but instead paid for things like the rent on the building, or purchased the medical supplies and equipment, while showing on paper the privately donated funds were used to supplement the abortion services. Fact is, without the lion’s share of the public funds, those accounting practices would be very difficult and they would have to use the private funds to pay for the budget line items that are being "paid' using the public funds.
Both public and private money go into the PP operational fund. Where the accountants decide to allocate the money doesn't matter.

Very interesting Cicero! Thanks for the information. Now unless it's just Right Wing speculation... Please post a link to the breakdown of how much taxpayer dollars goes to fund abortion services at PP. I will write a complaint letter myself telling them to STOP using public taxpayer dollars to fund abortion services.
I will hold off writing my complaint letter until I have the FACTS that PP uses taxpayer dollars to fund abortion. Please post the source so that we all can share the information and all can write complaint letters to PP.

Well, then please post the link that NO taxpayer money is used to fund abortion services. Show me how they separate the public money from the private money for an abortion performed at a Planned Parenthood facility. Is the heat and electricity used in the O.R. during the time of the abortion separated out of the monthly energy bill? Do they track the kilowatts used during each abortion and write two separate checks?
With public money subsidizing the PP facilities and operating costs, it is impossible to claim that taxpayer money isn’t funding the abortions that are performed in those facilities.

Abortion services are 100% funded by private donations... Show me where those private donations that were given ONLY for the purpose of abortion services, aren't subsidizing PP to help pay for other services that PP offers. I'd bet that those private donations are paying for Pennsylvania's health care.
When I worked for a corporation that did both commercial and military government contracts, the same issue applied. Work done on military contracts in the past had been used to pad the cost of commercial orders. The solution was to require a separation of all costs to the minute. Million dollar contracts were totally separate including incidentals like office supplies, snow plowing and janitorial services. If in a multi billion dollar budget that corporation can keep separate million dollar contracts that were 60/40 commercial/military... I'm sure a small operation like PP can keep separate 3% of it's funding.

Thankfully there is a Roe V Wade to guarantee "choice" or the Religious Fanatics would once again end the "Right To Life" for many women at the hands of a back alley coat hanger abortion.

This won't pass in PA, not enough dumb fanatics to get it through. Maybe Ronnie and his 29 aliases should mover there to help skew the vote towards the middle ages.
