Just heard from the rotterdam grapevine that the county is looking to take the tax exemption/non-profit status away from the Sons of Italy on Hamburg Street. Anyone hear anything?

So now they have to become a "for profit" in order to generate revenue to pay the taxes, so that makes sense? Especially when so many PROFIT MAKING businesses are earning millions and paying little to nothing in taxes. If a legitimate non-profit exists and follows the rules of being a non-profit, then I say leave them alone...they break the rules, GO AFTER THEM. Look at the positive value they've added to Rotterdam and Hamburg street, WITHOUT asking for taxpayer help.

Is it fair that 25% of property owners pay no taxes?
They receive all the same services and benefits of any other property owner.
My home makes no profit.
What makes them special.
No tax exemptions.
Everyone should be paying.
It isn't fair that these places take prime commercial properties off the tax rolls and pass the cost of operating the town on to the rest of us.
Where is the equal treatment under the law?
By that logic, unemployed people should be exempt.
If the unemployed can pay taxes on their properties, private clubs can too.
It's not fair they pay no sales taxes on the food, beverages and alcohol served at these places either.

L4Life...I understand the frustration....but I'm not going to debate the issues, as I am expressing my thoughts as you have expressed yours. We can agree to disagree, but at th end of the day, we probably don't disagree that much.
