Rotterdam police looking for gas station robbery suspects Posted: May 17, 2012 11:49 AM EDT
ROTTERDAM, N.Y. - Police in Rotterdam are investigating a robbery that took place at the Mobil gas station on Altamont Avenue Wednesday night.
Police say around 10:40 p.m. two black males entered the gas station, at 1210 Altamont Avenue, and demanded the clerk to open the cash register. When he did, the suspects forcibly put the employee in the restroom and barricaded the door with a shelving unit.
The suspects stole cash, lottery tickets, and cigarettes before fleeing in an unknown direction.
There was no weapon displayed or implied, and no injuries.
The clerk was able to force his way out of the restroom and called police.
The two suspects are described as black males between 18-22 years of age. One male was around 5'9'', wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt with a purple scarf covering the lower half of his face. The second male was about 6' tall wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black scarf covering the lower half of his face.
Anyone with information is asked to call Rotterdam detectives at 355-7397.
probably happened after they got done shoplifting at the Walmart...After all, it is on the way back home to Mt Pleasant.

That gas station closes at 11:00. It closes at 10 only on Sundays. I gassed up there yesterday after going to Walmart. It's like Fort Knox there now.
Actually I thought they were like Fort Knox before. When it reached a certain time the doors were locked and you could only use a 'service window'.....from what I remember. That was months and months ago.

No window but I think they are reconsidering that. From what I was told yesterday, they are pretty busy in the store between 9-11...with lottery, snacks, cigs and beer I guess. So much for needing a quart of milk. For sure the area has become a bit marginalized because of the Walmart. I asked why they didn't close earlier and the response was that every other place is open later or 24 hours around them. Makes it tough to compete in market I guess.
