Franciscan University Drops Entire Student Health Insurance Plan Over Birth Control Mandate
Posted: 05/15/2012 3:14 pm Updated: 05/15/2012 11:07 pm

Franciscan University of Steubenville, a Catholic institution in Ohio, has decided to drop its entire student health insurance plan as of the fall semester 2012 because of the new federal rule requiring contraception coverage under most employee and student health policies. While a number of religious colleges have filed lawsuits over the birth control requirement, Franciscan is the first to get rid of its student health plan.

"The Obama Administration has mandated that all health insurance plans must cover 'women’s health services' including contraception, sterilization, and abortion-causing medications as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)," the school announced on its website. "Up to this time, Franciscan University has specifically excluded these services and products from its student health insurance policy, and we will not participate in a plan that requires us to violate the consistent teachings of the Catholic Church on the sacredness of human life."

Therefore, the statement continued, the university will no longer offer student health insurance, require that all full-time undergrads have health insurance, or bill those students not covered under another plan for health insurance. The current plan expires on Aug. 15, 2012.................................>>>>........................>>>>...........................................http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....ntrol_n_1518678.html

The Franciscan friars have just taken hostages in the GOP's War On Women.

That "war" is still going on?

I think people are more concerned about Obama's "war" on the economy than the fabricated war on women.  The lowest percentage of American's in the labor force since 1981.  That's a lot of people out of works.

OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA!

It's jobs and the economy that Obama doesn't want to talk about.

Well, duh!  He'll never win the votes if he starts talking about stuff like that.

I wonder if they are also part of the GOP Assault on the Aged, the GOP's Guns turned on Gays, the GOP attempt to put Kids in Coffins, and the GOP use of Tanks against Trannies?

Everyone is laughing at the ridiculousness of the radical left that runs the media and the government. You are all so witty, too witty for your own good.

Abortion is the greatest Civil Rights Battle of our time. Soon the battle over the inalienable Right To Life will be held on a battleground near you. I stand with the children and the unborn who seek to experience Life. Unfortunately, there is a movement afoot to stop the Church from exercising conscience. I would like to speak openly to my fellow Countrymen and ask that they RESPECT the Church and the view of the Church. Many like minded local Officials here and throughout the State of New York want the President to RESPECT what the Church has to say on the matter. I for one will make my feelings known.

When Anti-Choice promoters speak of "THE CHURCH" they often speak as if All Churches Agree on
the subject.
Of course we all know that there is a huge difference of opinion among religions and even among Christian
Religions.

While the Roman Catholic Church opposes Choice, others support Choice.

~  The Episcopal Church in the United States of America has taken a pro-choice stand and has passed
resolutions at its triannual General Convention that supports abortion rights.

~ The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America maintains a pro-choice position for fetuses that are
aborted before viability outside of the womb.  The ELCA Social Statement on Abortion adds: "The
church recognizes that there can be sound reasons for ending a pregnancy through induced abortion.
The church opposes legal restrictions on abortion and provides health-care benefits to its employees
that cover elective abortions. Some hospitals affiliated with the church perform elective abortions

~ The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) generally takes a pro-choice stance. The Presbyterian Church
believes that the choice to receive an elective abortion can be "morally acceptable;" however, the
denomination does not condone late abortions where the fetus is viable and the mother's life is not
in danger.
Other Presbyterian denominations such as the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian
Church in America are anti-choice.

~ Quakers (The Religious Society of Friends)  generally avoids taking a stance on controversial issues
such as abortion; however, in the 1970s the American Friends Service Committee advocated for abortion
rights.

~ The United Church of Christ has strongly supported abortion rights since 1971 as a part of their Justice
and Witness Ministry. The church is an organizational member of the National Abortion and
Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL)

~ The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and The Community of Christ both take a pro choice
stance.

Be careful when you read what "THE CHURCH" says on this issue... as you can see "THE CHURCH"
has a variety of
views on abortion in the USA.

this is beyond the 'right for insurance birth control' it's all about the government plan that will envelope us regardless.....

choice:

1. work/school at religious institution=accept/follow the rules
2. work/school in secular institution=accept/follow the rule

Cicero,
You may worship at the altar of Politicians but that wasn't what Glryinthhighest's post involved.
Her post and my response concerned Christian religions and their view on Choice.

funny how you have 'it' pegged as a woman. We have already figured it is another one of DVORs incarnations.
