Rotterdam Sons of Italy exceeds 500 members, becomes second largest lodge in state

#ROTTERDAM — Italian kinship is swelling locally as one group celebrates reaching a membership milestone.

#The Rotterdam Sons of Italy reached 500 members on Monday, April 16, as the group welcomed its newest members during its regular meeting. In less than four years, the Gabriele D’Annunzio Lodge No. 321 has doubled its membership from about 225 in 2008. The lodge also has become the second largest in the state, meaning it will have 20 delegates to vote during organization elections.

#Lodge President Louis Fazzone said membership was sliding while the group was at its former location on Liberty Street in Schenectady before moving to Hamburg Street in Rotterdam. In September 2007, it opened its doors at the current facility, which was formerly Heritage Baptist Church.

#Upon opening in Rotterdam in 2007, he said the lodge had 170 members. how will this town board handle this issue?  isnt every council member also a member of the lodge??

Great news! Sons fortunes turned when they wisely decided to flee the City. They wanted no part of Stratton's phony Little Italy. Continued success!

now we know we are in Sicily.....kudos to the lodge....but dies this mean that the Town government is familia and is the kiss of death/////

This Town has no diversity......biased....and tunnel vision....

If we are in the BOOT....then a bunch of HEELS are running the Town....

GIVE IT UP PEOPLE....something good happening in Rotterdam and people still have to bash it somehow.

that building's had many incarnations over the years.......................I think it may have begun life as a restaurant, though the name escapes me.  

Maybe they can bring back the real Italian Fest like they used to have.

no offense to the Lodge....it's just that it seems ok to so bash by others blogging....but to the new kid on the block (so saying) it's bashing at its worst.

so amen to the Sons of Italy Lodge.....for all the good they do.....and how political that may be is another story...

The sons of italy or the sons of any other ethnic group is great. no bashing here. I just take issue when it is used for political fodder!

Don't tell me in thie Town that the Lodge is politically free....there doesn't seem like anything if free from the people who seek the most power...
