THis person can't be a government plant, having an actual idea.  Yey for ideas!  It's a good one.
When you factor in the rail system in this town, you got a winner if u ask me.

well, Todd did make a brief run at the supervisors job last year, and I seem to recall something about a relative working at town hall..........for what it's worth..............................I never totally dismiss any ideas until I've "studied" them a bit.....................that's the advantage of not being tied to any particular ideology, you don't just throw an idea out simply because it comes from the "other" side...........

Along with the rail system we have an industrial park with rail access, the Thruway and I88 which are both close but still companies are either prevented from building or don't want to build here. The question is why???

A few corrections/clarifications to the misinformation posted on this thread:

#1) Rotterdam does not have an "industrial park"  --it has a CORPORATE PARK and it has been actively marketing itself to a wide range of potential tenants -- including the type suggested by the person who started this thread;

#2) No specific proposal for a chip packaging facility has been put forward therefore it is misleading or to be more precise -- IT IS A LIE to state that such projects have been turned down;

Another point should be made -- Rotterdam lost a lot of ground during the 5 years that the GOP controlled the Town Board, refused to work with the County Economic Development Office and Metroplex and sent strong ANTI-DEVELOPMENT SIGNALS clear across the country with assinine legislation and policies ---  it is a FACT that Rotterdam lost the $40+ Million Dollar facility to Mechanicville due to the incompetent actions of the GOP majority on the board -- and there were a number of other developers that were seriously looking at Rotterdam with what would have been very good projects who chose to go elsewhere because of the anti-development mindset at that time.

We can not change the past - but we can learn from it and move forward.  I contend that Rotterdam has many assets  (those listed and others not listed above) and now has a team in Town Hall that is willing to roll up its sleeves and WORK TOGETHER with each other, the county, the state, the feds -- and the private sector -- to bring good, positive development projects to the town.

Please read the original post - I offer our planning commission an idea in an effort to benefit our community

As for or corporate park / industurial park it is lacking what business related to the operations in malta and albany are looking for.  I would prefer employemenf options for our youth that consist of more than driving a fork lift and loading a truck.  Currently we pay to educate them and they question why would i want to live in "Rot"terdam, a town with little or no employment options.

First - I read your original post.

Second - You need to educate yourself on the actual role of the Planning Commission.  The Commission is empowered to act on applications for variances, site plan approval, permits, etc that come to us.  The Commission is NOT the economic development office for the town.

Third - Don't knock driving fork lifts and loading trucks ... they are real jobs.

Fourth - I suggest that it is neither productive or helpful to bash your community by referring to it as "Rot"terrdam.  Offer constructive ideas and solutions -- but leave out the negativity and bashing.

Yeah, what do you mean 'little or no employment option?"

If you know the right people you get $100 an hour no bid contracts!
