The museum was built when Republicans ran the county and the city (and the state and the country) --- so its location can only be blamed on one party .... the Republican Party.

The museum was positioned in that spot when Schenectady was a 'hot ticket item'. When it was considered 'shameful' to be on welfare. When there were jobs. When non-profits and entitlement programs weren't needed. When the schenectady school system was the envy of all other school districts. When taxes were low. When crime was low. When every property was occupied. When there was no blight. When Hamilton Hill, Bellevue and Mt.Pleasant were quaint 'safe' neighborhoods. When there wasn't a METROPLEX/GILLEN to rob the taxpayers and give to the rich!!

Ya wanna blame the reps for 'success'? Have at it!!

It was built on that spot because the land was owned by the City School District  (the land used to be the playing fields for the Old Nott Terrace/Schenectady High School) so it was not very expensive.

Welfare programs, non-profits and entitlement programs were most certainly in existence when the museum was built --- that was after all -- the era when the Great Society programs were being implemented.

County property tax rates are lower today -- than they were in 1970.    I'll have to check the crime statistics ---    but there most certainly was  "blight" in Schenectady and many other cities in the late 1960's and early 1970's ------------ that is why the federal government had just created   HUD and there were all kinds of urban renewal projects going on in every city in the country.

By the way, I witnessed first hand the condition of Hamilton Hill and Mont Pleasant in the late 1960's and early 1970's ------- I can assure you that there most certainly was crime (gangs, drugs, etc) in both neighborhoods even back then.   There were vacant buildings -- closed store fronts ---  The situation certainly declined much further over the next 30 years   --- but you can not say that there was no blight or no problems back then.

Finally, there are great museums in major cities  -- Rome, London, Paris, New York, Beijing, Tokyo ..   ALL of which have welfare programs, entitlement programs, crime, blight, etc ............................   so it is possible to have a great museum despite other problems in a community .............and I would add it (the existence of these conditions) is probably all the more reason why we need great museums and cultural attractions ----  to help improve society and raise it to a better level.

And NOW, the drugs and crime have spread to EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD in the city !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     And the numbers of vacant and abandoned buildings has increased to record high numbers, especially in the past 8 years when the homeonwers are losing their homes because they cannot afford to pay the tax bills of the downtown millionaires.

PROVE IT, DV !!!!!!!!!!!!    Provide the EVIDENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     Oh yeah, your evidence is copy and paste of dem campaign propaganda.

Oh yeah, DV, IF and WHEN you come up with the tax RATES, make sure you ALSO provide for us (with evidence of course) the typical poperty assessment values, the equalization rate, and what the tax BILLS were in 1970.

Here's one that DV, AGAIN, will REFUSE to answer, because he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

This all 'sounds' good but it isn't factual....at all! We have family that lived in both Mt. Pleasant and Hamilton HIll. Thefolks in Mt.Pleasand didn't have to lock their doors. They could roam the streets freely. They had picnics and bbq's. Onecould go to the Mt.Carmel feast without fear of being approached by a drug dealer. Rents were cheap and taxes were reasonable and it was clean. FACT!

We also had relatives that were born and raised on the Hill. Back in the 60's 70's, they too were a quaint neighborhood. There were picnics and bbq's and even Petta's was the choice for not only a great dinner, but for every family function. The rents were cheap and the taxes were reasonable and it was clean. FACT!

I don't need to post a 'fact sheet'...although it would be helpful, huh? .......but this is a first hand account with our own ears and eyes!! REALLY!!

Crime was scant at best. And the dss building which was on Nott Street, was almost vaccant. Today the city is home to TWO Hamilton Hills and is rapidly spreading to the surrounding towns. And the new dss building can barely find room for the city welfare recipients!!

And did I mention that the vacancy rate is at a historical high and the taxes are one of the highest in the country...and IS the highest in the state!!

And let's also not forget a school system that is impotent at best!!

Wow, we were even higher than 8th on the nationwide property tax list? Yeah, OK.

Communists have a theory that says that the bigger the LIE, the more likely it is to be believed and less likely it is to be challenged.

It is such an obvious LIE that they call the TAX BILL the "STATE AND FEDERAL MANDATE CHARGE" so in order to state that TAX RATES ARE LOWER, they fool EVERYONE, except for a few critical thinkers here- that the mainstream newspaper media wishes to rub out. For if they can eliminate this crucial exchange of information where we shed LIGHT upon the Goebelist propaganda that the county democraps spew- there will be nowhere to read the truth.

And I am giving you my FIRST HAND ACCOUNT of the conditions in Hamilton Hill and Mont Pleasant in the late 1960's ----- My mother and my siblings and I lived IN both of those neighborhoods during that period ---- there was blight back then, there were gangs, there were drug sales and there was crime.   Yes - it got progressively worse from the late 1960's onward ..  and it is worse now ..  but it certainly had many problems back then.

Further -- my statements are FACTUAL ---   it is a FACT that county property tax rate  were HIGHER in 1970 than they are now,  there were welfare and entitlement programs back in 1970, there was crime back then  and there most certainly was urban blight back then.

So instead of trying to argue that it was all wonderful and perfect way back when -- which it REALLY was NOT -- lets focus on working to improve the situation today and going forward.

Further -- my statements are FACTUAL ---   it is a FACT that county property tax rate  were HIGHER in 1970 than they are now,

Here is proof of how DUMB DUMB DUMB ths big  cheerleader DV is.   In 1992, the county tax RATE for homeonwers in the town of Rotterdam was in the vicinity of $145, and now, 20 years later, it's under $10, I believe.    So, DV takes copy and paste stuff from dem party campaign political propaganda (i.e., LIES), and DV proudly prolaims that the tax rates have gone down, are the lowest, etc....

But in reality, DV - who is not intelligent by any means,  doesn't know diddly squat about the taxes.   The FACT that DV would DARE compare the tax rate of the past to the tax rate of today proves  he lacks intelligence, and proves that he does not now, nor has he EVER owned a home and paid taxes anywhere.

However, since I am a highly intelligent person, I will state the REAL FACTS.....and I DEFY DV to provide one teeny weeny shred of EVIDENCE that negates what I say.

The tax RATE in 1992 for the COUNTY taxes for owners of property within the town or Rotterdam was indeed roughly $145.   And today, 20 years later, it's under $10.  Sometime today or tomorrow I'll get the actual county tax rate  (I was trying to look at the state tax department real property stuff, but since the savage woman took over the real property office with her bloated salary the profiles are much more difficult to compare.

The unintelligent DV REFUSES to compare apples to applies and then compare oranges to oranges.    The roughly $145 tax RATE in 1992 was based on an equalization rate of 4.84.   While today's ER is 100.00.

So now, DV, explain to us how the dems have lowered taxes for the homeowners.   Can you do that?    HELL NO

Watch him now, either:   spew babble, change the subject, or spew obscenities.   But 100% ABSOLUTE GUARANTEE, DV will NOT answer the question to show how taxes are lower.

I see that one of the nayboobs that I have blocked messages from has posted a response.   He/she is probably stamping his/her feet and is demanding an answer.   I have no obligation to answer questions from anybody in this forum and certainly no intention of answering a vulgar, negative, hate-spewing person.   He/she would be advised not to hold his/her breath while waiting for an answer -- because I simply will not carry on a conversation with him/her here or anywhere else.

It is so laughable that DV can post these several sentences as in the above quote, but since he cannot explain the taxes of the past compared to now, it's obvious he's backed into a corner and THAT is the reason he will not answer the question.

DV does a copy/paste of dem campaign propaganda and in so doing, he winds up comparing apples to oranges.   How unintelligent can one person be?

He cannot even state on these boards what the tax RATE was in any of the decades in the past that he uses to compare today's rates to.  He merely copies and pastes that they are lower than or lowest since a time in the past.   How can he make that statement but not know what the tax rates were in the past?
