I heard from a reliable source that former Rotterdam Town Councilman John Mertz is considering a run for NYS Assembly if Amedore pursues a NYS Senate seat. Reportedly, there is "old Republican money" from the town and county that will back him. Can anyone confirm or dispel? I had not read Mertz's name among the candidates identified in a recent newspaper article.

John retired from politics in 2009. Though I haven't spoken with him about this, I suspect it to be untrue.
Mr. Mertz was FIRED from politics -- by both his party and then the voters of the town. He didn't voluntarily retire.
