petta's has great food. u do not like it because petta is a dem, and your statement just shows the depth of your incredibly bizzare sense of priorites --- anything dem is bad..
so a strip club....with IHOP next door? with an ice cream shop.....oooooh golly gee whiz......oh, the employment opportunities for those young girls getting ice cream.....a nice future.......maybe they will have waitress cross over day between IHOP and shenanigans......wow.....and special crepes with cream and sausage......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Before I even begin, I would like to state this post is not intended to instigate negativity any further, nor is it endorsed or solicited by the owners/benefactors of the Dolce Vita.
I am both upset and aggravated by the level of maliciousness and ignorance which has been displayed in this thread. While the town motto of Rotterdam is "A Nice Place to Live", anything but that has been exemplified by a community of contributors to this thread.
I am sorry to read that you are 'upset and aggravated'. And sorry to read that you consider 'opinions and perceptions' as negativity. You can blame this blow back on the Metroplex and the city/county leaders. THEY are the ones that have created an environment of skepticism and doubt and questioning. Which is, by the way, the right of all Americans....yes?
Every time there is a business venture in the city, it is usually attached to the Metroplex doling out taxpayer's money to support/relocate/bribe these private businesses. And while the Metroplex and the city/county leaders are doling out taxpayer's money, the taxpayers are seeing taxes and fees rising at an alarming rate!!! And apparently no one cares about the taxpayers....apparently!
Sorry to tell you, but it is the Metroplex and the city/county leaders that have turned businesses into political fodder in the hopes of receiving lucrative campaign contributions and votes!
I commend all of the hard working, overburdened taxpayers for 'questioning' the motives of every single issue that rises from the Metroplex and the city/county leaders. Remember....they work 'for the people'. They are the 'servants'...not the taxpayers.
It's too bad that Dolce Vita got caught up in the political fodder......but that is what happens when the government gets involved in business creation! It is what it is!
The taxpayers will be waiting the hear if Dolce Vita will be reopening with the help of Metroplex aka taxpayer's $$$$....or from their own personal resources. And ya can't blame them....no?

wrong.. u created it .. not metroplex and city and county dems.. there u go again.. there are many thousands who support metroplex,... u four or five people are not a true sample, just a disgruntled minority.. u have a right to your opinion, even though it is wrong/
to say metro bribes is slander of the highest degree and demonstrates your politcal bias. it has gone thru two state audits and at NO TIME was anything illegal found.. so what u say is simply untrue and u continue the lie constantly, and therefore i will constantly correct u..
businesses fail for many reasons. and they have NOTHING to do with metroplex... they fail because they are poorly managed, they steal , they lose their patrons, their location is bad...
The goal of Metroplex was to bring businesses and jobs to this area for the purpose of lowering taxes by increasing the tax base, have they succeeded in attaining their goal, are the taxes lower, were more jobs created or just moved around the county???

I am both upset and aggravated by the level of maliciousness and ignorance which has been displayed in this thread. While the town motto of Rotterdam is "A Nice Place to Live", anything but that has been exemplified by a community of contributors to this thread. Randy Loren started this business back in 2009, with the intent to offer Schenectady/Rotterdam/Colonie something found no where else. The positive response which was received was overwhelming. People across the Capital Region were excited at the prospect of such a diverse and unique business model. Moving from Florida, Randy Loren hastily chose a property to revitalize, which would otherwise sit vacant and in ruin. Some of you may even remember this as the site of the old Anthony's, during Schenectady's "booming years". The business set out to renovate and remodel the building to fit it with the unique ensemble that is the personification of "Dolce Vita". After accomplishing this feat of renovation in just under 6 weeks, the Dolce Vita opened prematurely on Feb. 14th, 2009 to an astounding reception. For months following the place was packed. The Gazette positively reviewed the establishment, and the Dolce Vita soon received acclimation's in the area's Metroland.
The Dolce Vita offered to this area live shows performed by the owner Randy Loren, performances by greats such as The GTO's, Sal Cannavo, and The Joey Thomas Big Band. Those who took the opportunity to dine and enjoy an evening at the Dolce Vita understand that the true intent of the restaurant was to make people happy, to improve the quality of life here in Schenectady by offering you all a place to enjoy yourselves. What restaurant hasn't made a mistake before? And even if still unsatisfied what compensation do you receive by ignorantly bashing a dream of a fellow human for following his dream.
The reason for the closure is simply this. The owner/landlord of the former Dolce Vita property felt he would be more profitable to pursue a different venture, such as a new home to Shenanigans located already on State Street, or something similar. Randy Loren acquired a new property through nothing other than honest business, and fair trade. The move is not attributed to anything concerning taxes, government/political favoritism, or any other perpetuated lie or untruth fabricated throughout this thread.
In conclusion, if you ate there and didn't enjoy yourself, "c'est la vie"; It is Life. We all ave had a bad experience one place or another. But don't judge only on one visit, for is that the fairest policy? To those who discriminate upon the Dolce Vita based entirely on it's owner, let those who have not sinned cast the first stone. And finally, to those who are angry simply because they resent the success and positive reception of the Dolce Vita, find a new hobby.

Dolce Vita was one of my family's favorite restaurants --- and if -- as I have been told -- it will be reopening again in a new location ... we will be back.
Mr. Loren managed to hit a home run on the 3 key ingredients to a great restaurant --- #1) warm, welcoming and accommodating service -- literally from the moment of arrival to departure .. myself and my family felt at home among friends at the restaurant .#2) exceptionally good food and spirits .. we were never disappointed with any of the meals we ate there and #3) a classy and elegant -- yet comfortable atmosphere ... Mr. Loren managed to bring a much needed touch of class to the area's restaurant scene .. in a day and age when chain restaurants with fake ferns and blaring tvs hanging from the ceilings .. it was a great treat to enjoy dinner in a truly elegant restaurant.

'I' didn't create the Metroplex. And whenever any government entity or tax based organization uses taxpayer's money to promote their effort......the taxpayers have the 'right' to question and scrutinize. AND THEY SHOULD!!! It is unfortunate to hear in this day and age, that when taxpayers 'question' authority, they are considered 'disgruntled'.
It is very difficult for folks to wrap their brain around the bullcrap that comes from the Metroplex/city/county leaders on how 'wonderful' everything is! That is pure bullcrap!! The residents are shouldering the majority of the taxes and fees. They are the highest taxed in the state and almost the highest in the country! Something the Metroplex and the city/county leaders can claim as a success!!
Crime is rampant. Infrastructure is crumbling. The school system is failing. The majority of the city residents are on welfare. Schenectady is now home to TWO hamilton hills!!
And you have the nerve to belittle the taxpayers for questioning and scrutinizing?? The taxpayers have seen NO RELIEF in the last decade. Only increased financial burdens placed on them! It is disgraceful!!!!
So again.......Dolce Vita has just become part of the political fodder and the overburdened taxpayers will be waiting anxiously to see if they relocate using their own resources instead of the taxpayers!....k?
The Metroplex/city/county leaders can take all the credit for the 'questioning and scrutinizing'!!! They created this mess.....the taxpayers didn't!
