On New Year’s Eve, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake hit northeastern Ohio, the second quake to strike the region in a week. Saturday’s quake, which occurred in an area not typically known for this type of natural disaster, is being traced back to fluid injection wells at a Youngstown fracking site.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, “the quake was the 11th over the last eight months in Mahoning County, all within two miles of the injection wells.”
Fracking wells have been linked to earthquakes in Arkansas, West Virginia, Colorado and Texas. Two of the Ohio injection wells in question are now being shut down.

96 people died building the Hoover Dam, worth while death and destruction since it was a government project. If obama subsidized fracking with public funds, it would be a progressive and nobel venture. Those greedy profiteers must be stopped.

For Cicero, the 96 people who died building the Hover Dam, were just a business expense. Like the cost of cement, and steel for the project, he sees their deaths as 'collateral damage'... unintended but acceptable.
If the Hover Dam were built today, it would be a different situation. Although dangerous work, with OSHA requirements, the loss of life in a project this size would be eliminated or minimized.
In Ron Paul's NO OSHA world... Cicero can go on killing the working man. After all, the working man is part of the 99% and expendable, so that the 1% can thrive.

For Box, if he was blogging back then, he would have opposed building the Hoover Dam since there were no Federal Safety Regulations in place, and it wouldn't have been worth the risk to build a dam that produced hydroelectric power for 3 states.
If box were president during the industrial revolution, it would have been stopped shortly after it started because of his fear and safety concerns. We would still be riding on horses and reading by candle light.
In 1960, Denver was an earthquake stable city with few quakes recorded. Between 1962 and 1965 Denver was hit with 700 earthquakes. The cause was ultimately traced to the US Army who for 3 years pumped liquid waste from nerve gas experiments,(150 million gallons)down a 3 mile deep hole. It was discovered that the water lubricated naturally occurring faults in the earth causing the quakes.

IMPOSSIBLE!!! That was the Kennedy and Johnson years. Democrats don't do that stuff. Only evil conservatives and republicans do those things. The Democrats are the good guys.

I would question the "science" of your statement --- for one thing -- Denver is geographically located right along side the front range of the Rocky Mountains and has a number of river-beds/creek-beds that intersect there.. where there are mountains and river-beds/creek-beds you have geological fault lines -- which means earthquakes are possible.
We (in Schenectady County) live along and between and amidst a number of geological fault lines -- we may not have many "recorded" 3.0 or greater earthquakes .. but we small earthquakes are actually pretty common and mid-sized to major quakes are possible.

U.S. Government Confirms Link Between Earthquakes and Hydraulic Fracturing On 5 November an earthquake measuring 5.6 rattled Oklahoma and was felt as far away as Illinois. Until two years ago Oklahoma typically had about 50 earthquakes a year, but in 2010, 1,047 quakes shook the state. Why? In Lincoln County, where most of this past weekend's seismic incidents were centered, there are 181 injection wells, according to Matt Skinner, an official from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, the agency which oversees oil and gas production in the state. Cause and effect? The practice of injecting water into deep rock formations causes earthquakes, both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Geological Survey have concluded.
"In 1961, a 12,000-foot well was drilled at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, northeast of Denver, for disposing of waste fluids from Arsenal operations. Injection was commenced March 1962, and an unusual series of earthquakes erupted in the area shortly after." http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/states/colorado/history.php
"A detailed study of the earthquakes associated with the Rocky Mountain Arsenal disposal well is presented. Long-period surface-wave studies are used together with P-wave first motions to show that the 10 April, 9 August, and 27 November 1967 earthquakes occurred at depths of 3 to 5 km and were characterized by normal faulting along a northwest striking fault plane. A joint hypocenter relocation of 103 microearthquakes of a data set of 279 recorded between 1967 and 1968 shows a hypocenter pattern striking N50°W, with most of the events located about 5 km northwest of the disposal well at depths between 3 to 8 km. A fault plane dipping southwest is tenuously suggested by those earthquakes with depths less than 5 km. Modeling of near-field seismoscope observations lend support to the focal mechanisms derived."
For testing purposes, the well was injected with approximately 568,000 gallons of city water prior to injecting any waste. However, when the Basin F liquids were actually introduced, the process required more time than anticipated to complete because of the impermeability of the rock. The end result was approximately 165 million gallons of Basin F liquid waste being injected into the well during the period from 1962 through 1966. The injected fluids had very little potential for reaching the surface or useable groundwater supply since the injection point had 11,900 feet of rock above it and was sealed at the opening. The Army discontinued use of the well in Feb. 1966 because of the possibility that the fluid injection was triggering earthquakes in the area. The well remained unused for nearly 20 years.

Well that confirms it!!! The U.S. Government weighed in...Hydraulic Fracturing causes earthquakes, Iraq had WMD's and North Vietnam engaged the USS Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin.
Oh Yeah...And 35 years ago we were heading toward another ice age, now it's global warming. How to keep track of it all.
