With the 2012 changes, most EPIC enrollees will no longer receive:

Assistance with co-pays until they reach the Medicare "doughnut hole," the gap between the initial coverage limit and the "catastrophic" coverage threshold.
Assistance with premiums or deductibles.
Help choosing the best Medicare Part D plan.
Emergency coverage if a claim is denied at the pharmacy counter.
"They cut this program down to the bare bones and the people who are going to pay for that are the individuals who are 78 years old and have four prescription drugs," said AARP's William E. Ferris, describing the average EPIC enrollee. "We don't think that is right."
EPIC will still provide coverage for some of the neediest seniors.
For those enrollees who make less than $23,000 a year — or $29,000 for a couple — EPIC will pay $38 a month to help defray the monthly cost of the Medicare Part D premium.
Less than half of the people who qualified for premium assistance in 2011 will qualify in 2012, Ferris said.
"We think the governor and Legislature made a mistake in last year's budget," he said. "We hope they will come back in this session and fix it."

It's only just begun, the worst is yet to come with cuts to seniors.

the cuts to the seniors are actually cuts to their families

PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA!!!

The feds are bankrupt and are cutting funding to the states for medicare/medicaid. Now the states aka taxpayers have to find a way to pay for these government programs. The taxpayers are tapped out.......so they will cut services.

There is no way schenectady county will build a county nursing home. IT IS UNAFFORDABLE!!!

YOU FOLKS AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET!!!!

God help the boomers!!

And those wacko leaders in Schenectady, they just keep exempting the millioniares from paying the property taxes.

But those Schenectady dem leaders don't care about the elderly, they just hike the taxes of the elderly and make them pay the property taxes of the millioniares.

Yeah, let's see what cheerleader DV says.   Does DV continue to support exempting the rich in downtown from Schenectady from paying their own property taxes?

Does the dem suck-up DV support making the seniors continue paying their own taxes PLUS the taxes of the millionaires downtown?    Well DV????   Do you STILL think the bbusinesses downtown should be exempt from paying their own property taxes?    Do you STILL support stealing from the eldelry and making them pay the property taxes of all the places downtown?

What does DV say about elderly losing their homes because they are struggling financially and they are forced to pay the Philip Morris taxes.

WHY should Morris be exempt from paying taxes with the MILLIONS he gets form the business when seniors are struggling so much?    Why DV????

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Well, I guess it's at least a beginning to cutting back.
