There was no equal rights then, almost no rights for women, and buying a slave was a normal transaction among most of our founding fathers... The United States was a few colonies, along the East Coast, who could only communicate between each other with a messenger on a horse. We no longer live in those times. If you want to define the USA by those times... then get off your computer and send an email by messenger on a horse.
