They should privatize the transportation. Plenty of bus companies out there that would bid for the job and most likely at a much better rate.

I agree! Talk about double dipping....where does mercoglin work? He's rotterdam's tax paid town justice AND works for schalmont!! And how many tax paid retirements/benefits will he get?

It would probably make more sense to have the bus garage at the Schalmont campus  which is more centrally located.

I was transported to school on both district busses and private bus company busses. For the most part there was little to know difference in the quality of services or drivers. The day the district bus caught on fire and the driver bailed out leaving the students on board was interesting though.

My father drove for a private bus company for 10+ years. I can only remember one instance of him saying a driver got busted for doing something wrong. A boy who had been removed from the bus for causing trouble threw an ice ball, hitting the driver in the face. The driver exited the bus and stuck the kid (16-17 years old for reference) head first into a snow bank. He then drove to the bus garage and resigned.

Hmmmm, district driver tries to roast the kids. Private driver reacts to a kid who really deserved it and resigns. I'll take the private bus company thank you very much.

There have been numerous stories of "problem people" (sex offenders, druggies, drinkers, etc)  being hired by private bus companies.

ANYTIME folks are paid to 'take care' of mass numbers of kids there will be issue.....the TRUTH is that it really doesn't matter if it is a private company or a union cluster-mug.......

the 'special' adult leaders will show up in either situation---(you cant pick apples in a pumpkin patch)

1. you vette out jerks
2. you cant vette out criminals that have never been arrested
3. society needs to get the stomach back for CONSEQUENCES AND PUNISHMENT for those so called jerks

cheaper to go private.....no long term commitment for health insurance etc.......that's just plain stupid on government leaders

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

In some cases, the private companies have hired persons with a prior arrest record -- but failed to do background checks.

whooop-de-do-da........the public schools unions also 'protect' the same said folks in their midst......NO SYSTEM IS REMOTELY PERFECT.....but to pay to create public dole jobs on a fear basis
is a BIG FAT LEADERSHIP LIE......it's pathetic and sad.....

the same rules for busing apply to public/private....the standard is the same....the union does not uphold it anymore than anyone else......it just allows for more hands in the public funding for
the foreseeable future, without regards to future budgeting and economic factors THAT ALWAYS SHOW UP......

Let's remember how mohonasen allowed a pedofile to work at the school for years and did nothing. And I believe there was a teacher who more recently was picked up for drug use....yes? And yet we pay these school districts millions of dollars to teach ourchildren and keep them safe! But since they have failed in the 'safe department' it would be better served if each school district stayed separate and 'small' so parents can be more informed and are able to get a handle on exactly what is going on in their local school district.

KEEP THEM SMALL AND SEPARATE TO MAINTAIN BETTER CONTROL AND OVERSIGHT!!

Buses?  We never had buses.

Let the kids walk to school in groups, like we used to do.  My son walks with his friends today. They develop lifetime friendships, get exercise, learn about the weather and appreciate transportation when they get older.

I know, someone will blast me because 'it isn't as safe as it was yesterday'. BS, we became smarter because we had to.

Like.

In fact, my children still walk to school.  The bus used to stop for them, but no longer, and it's one way I help to reduce the tax burden.  Less slowing down, less wear on the brakes, and less gas spent as the bus isn't burning for the stop time and the extra getting up to speed.
