I can never watch this or listen to the song without crying. My four yr. old grandson sings it all the time now because he likes seeing me get teary eyed
Thank you- that is the very best interpretation of that song, ever. End of story. Period. Thank you Mel Torme for writing it but Nat owns it, just like Bing owns White Christmas.
Jackie Gleason had a great orchestra. This transition of The Christmas Song is beautiful! I had the album and now I have it on CD. It is a beautiful Christmas CD!
Another Jackie Gleason Orchestra great. I listen to this CD when I'm decorating the tree and wrapping gifts and I have for years! The whole CD is so soothing.
I am familiar with Burl Ives but prefer Johhny Cash's version of the "I heard the bells on Christmas Day".

"For this is what America is all about. It is the uncrossed desert and the unclimbed ridge. It is the star that is not reached and the harvest that is sleeping in the unplowed ground." Lyndon Baines Johnson
JoAnn I never knew Jackie had an orchestra, the music is spectacular
Wasn't Christmas sooooo much better years ago? It wasn't the rush to get presents like it is now, people trampling each other, using pepper spray and shooting each other.
Remember when the WHOLE family would get together, aunts uncles cousins etc.
And the trees, simpler ornaments but so very special. We used to have a metallic one at my Dad's automotive garage, I don't know how many here ever went there it was called Don's Electric on Bradley St. (where the motorcycle shop is now.)
When the Christmas parade was truly the Christmas parade, the Carl company window, everyone wishing each other good tidings.
Now everyone is so busy and rushed, many have lost the true meaning of Christmas.

I've always made an effort to slow things down at this time of year in spite of the urge to hustle and bustle.........I looove Christmas time..
Someone who wants something old and traditional should hear this. The Wexford Carol is one of my favorites and with Yo-Yo Ma and Alison Krauss, you can't really go wrong.

Jackie Gleason had a spectacular orchestra! They are hard to come by today, but they are worth the search. And yes I think Christmas was better years ago. I remember we always had tinsel on our tree and I swear that we were still finding remnants of it in July. It was everywhere! Remember the bubble lights? They still sell them. We always had a fresh cut tree that always had one bad side. The bad side always faced the wall. Today, we have an artificial pre-lit tree because it's easier. I like the old traditions, but as each generation dies off, the new generations start their own. I love Christmas! I love the lights, tree, gifts and family. But for me personally, I never forget that it is the birth of Christ that I am really celebrating.

I never heard this before. It is beautiful! Thanks!
