I tried to find my copy of "DVOR Got Run Over by a Peterbilt" - but it must be on the other flash drive. I'll find it and get it posted soon.
I prefer religious themed Christmas music - "In the Bleak Midwinter" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and ""I heard the Bells on Christmas Day" (preferably the Johnny Cash version) are some of my favorites.

"For this is what America is all about. It is the uncrossed desert and the unclimbed ridge. It is the star that is not reached and the harvest that is sleeping in the unplowed ground." Lyndon Baines Johnson

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
My very favorite, this is the 1957 Riddle-arranged remake of his own 1954 Gordon Jenkins-arranged classic. Sinatra always struggled a little with a waltz, but you wouldn't know it listening. This is the sound of Christmas music I remember as a child. More to come.

This has been my favorite Christmas song since I was a little girl. And that was a very long time ago.
Thank you- that is the very best interpretation of that song, ever. End of story. Period. Thank you Mel Torme for writing it but Nat owns it, just like Bing owns White Christmas.

Here is one for DVOR in the spirit of Christmas. A true folk singer, Burl Ives... I believe this is the earlier 1957 version because he re-recorded the song in the early 60's following the success of the TV show we all grew up on - Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

This is a record that my Mom practically wore a hole through in December when I was a child. Johnny Mathis is tip-top and Percy Faith arranges and conducts. Standard fare in the All-American Christmas music diet, this track has Mathis tackling the Elvis classic. The whole album must be part of any Boomer's Christmas memory bank, and should be in every Christmas music lover's collection. After this you can take it or leave it as far as JM's later Christmas recordings go, but this is a must-have.

While we are talking classics- Sinatra's 1957 interpretation of the Judy Garland wartime classic follows- Apparently according to my late Father- this song was wildly appropriate to the men serving overseas as they longed to be home and dreamed of reunion with loved ones at the Holidays. In other words it was the background music for many a good drunk around 1944 and 45. I think my Dad said "It would bring tears to a glass eye!"
I think FS handled it perfectly, and even had the original composer change a line in the song from that part about "muddle through somehow" to "hang a shining star on every bough" in order to make it his own. Typical Sinatra panache. He recorded the song over in about 63 for a Christmas album with Riddle and the strings were far more lush in the arrangement as Riddle was doing a larger, more spectral session with many, many more musicians. I think it was upward of 50 in the orchestra and chorus. Anyway, although that version is not on Youtube, I think it is more heartfelt and the arrangement really heightens the emotions of the singer and the listener.

Someone who wants something old and traditional should hear this. The Wexford Carol is one of my favorites and with Yo-Yo Ma and Alison Krauss, you can't really go wrong.

I can never watch this or listen to the song without crying. My four yr. old grandson sings it all the time now because he likes seeing me get teary eyed
