After visiting RSM ealrier in the week and then spending a good part of the day yesterday shopping along  Route 30 in Amsterdam  ---  I am even more convinced that Rotterdam has to act decisively and quickly in order to NOT be left in the dust ... in terms of economic development.

Rotterdam Square Mall needs to be reworked into an open-air mall similar to Clifton Park Center and Mohawk Common ---- good anchor stores need to be attracted.

Sewers and other underground infrastructure need to be installed along Hamburg Street and Curry Rd near Exit 25 of the Thruway.

Sewers and other underground infrastructure need to be installed along Route 7 and Burdeck Street near Exit 25A of the Thruway.

Five Corners needs to be fixed --- adopting either of the two options proposed during the study conducted earlier this year.

The town needs to finally update its Comp Plan along with zoning map and zoning definitions.

The town needs to adopt a PROACTIVE approach to economic development -- going out and inviting businesses to consider coming to Rotterdam .. not just waiting for the businesses to approach the town.

And where do you expect the money for these projects to come from? I don't bleed green and neither do any of my neighbors.

Public funds to help with the sewer and infrastructure investments -- private funds for the actual redevelopmentand development projects,

And it is a GOOD INVESTMENT of taxpayer dollars to partially fund the installation of sewer and infrastructure improvements  --because economic development is the only way to GROW the tax base and eventually lower the overall tax rate in the town.

The fact is that Rotterdam has done a poor job with economic development in the past 50 years .. and that is one of the key factors in our tax rate being so high.

The Comp plan can be updated in 6 months or less -- IF it is made a top priority.

Talk about STUPID

He says "our" tax rate is so high.   He says county (portion of the tax bill) taxes are the lowest since the 1950's yet he cannot provide the numbers of how much a typical tax BILL was in the 1950's compared to now.

He says the town tax rate is so high, but then he wants to increase the taxes (obviously in THIS case the tax RATE will go up even higher !!!!!!!!!!!

Homeowners will pay big time, for sewers.  And tell us DV, for people who have recently spent $5,000 on a new septic system, do you think they should have to pay for the sewers for the private businesses too?

How about if YOU start paying taxes!!!!!!

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

A sane person would get out. These spenders will bankrupt the town faster than anyone really thought possible. This is a bad omen to hear him say this crap, because he repeats talking points and things he overheard at democrap meetings. So, a educated guess and good intel says that this is the scam they have brewing. Wait until the bills come due. Oh my God.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The only foolish ones -- are folks like MikeChristine who live their lives with their heads up their backsides and who are eternally opposed to any progress.   If nayboobs the nayboobs actually took the time to visit other parts of the state and country --- they would see that many communities that are SMALLER than Rotterdam have public sewer systems and other infrastructure -- and as a result they have  commercial retail and office developments which have expanded the property tax base and because of the taxes these developments pay the HOMEOWNERS PAY LESS TAXES without having to cut vital services.

All the nayboobs can do is lie (like insinuating that I don't pay taxes .. because I do) or make personal insults - all of which proves that they are not intelligent enough and mature enough to carry on an adult discussion of issues.

Rotterdam needs public sewers and in-ground infrastructure ... it should have been installed 10, 20 or even 30 years ago .... but since we can't change the past  let's re-unite to solve the problem NOW and have a brighter future.

First priority should be economic revitalization --- and that means updating the Comp Plan (along with new zoning maps and new zoning language),   developing a plan to install sewers and in-ground utilities/infrastructure along Hamburg Street, Burdeck Street and Route 7 (by Exit 25-A)   and meeting with the owners of major commercial properties like Rotterdam Square Mall and the Hannaford Plaza and other properties  to discuss the future of these  key commercial properties.

The time has come to roll up our sleeves and SOLVE THE PROBLEMS .... not just talk about them.

I am a CITIZEN .. not a Pleb  (maybe you think of yourself as such -- but that is your business)....  and I don't think there is a problem with the "weight of government" ---- government just has to be made for effective and efficient.

Government is NOT the problem ---- backwards thinkers and people unafraid of progress are the problem.
