Unemployment under Reagan was over 10%, interest rates were through the roof... and Reagan was in the middle
of a huge "borrow and spend" spree for his military buildup.

Reagan was a RINO by today's TeaBagger standards.

Reagan inherited a 7.6% unemployment rate and a 22% Prime interest rate from Jimmy Carter.
By the time the 1984 re-election campaign kick into to full swing unemployment was 7.4% and the prime rate was around 10.5%

, interest rates were through the roof..

They were through the roof because Fed Chairman Volcker raised the interest rates to slow the economy and battle the stagflation of the late 70's caused by Nixon taking the dollar off of the gold standard in 1971.  That is something Bernake isn't willing to do.

When Reagan took office the unemployment rate was around 7.5%
It rose under Reagan to over 10% and didn't get back to under 7.5% until
early 1984.

Inflation rate when Reagan took office = 11.8

Inflation rate after Reagan first term in office = 4.3

http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/historical-inflation-rates/

It's U.S. Monetray Policy, NOT tax policy that drives the economy.  Like Milton Freidman said in 1965 - "We are all Keynesian now".  In 2011, we are witnessing the results of Keynesian economics where a central bank sets interest rates instead of the markets.

so Roosevelt wanted the corporations to 'give' to others when a corporation has a 'personhood' title? That would be like taking your money and giving it to me because the government said so....

is this logical?

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

Many of them educated by the Government funded GI BIll.
Many of them living on Government funded Social Security.
Many of them with Government funded health care of Medicare.
Many of them with Government funded reduced property tax after age 65.

Sounds like many of them are living on Socialized Government Programs, not hard work.

The government forced them to have SS taken out of their paychecks, the government forces them to go on Medicare when they turn 65. There's not much of a reduction in property tax last time I checked my tax bill. Many that I know retired from private companies and have pensions and back in the day there was no need to go to college as there were plenty of good paying jobs available but if you wanted to make the big bucks then a college degree was necessary.

nope....it's generational fighting.....

let's see....where shall the resources go

1. government subsidised retirement
2. government subsidised education
3. government subsidised mortgages
4. government subsidised healthcare(oxymoron here)

my view is that 'mom/pop' aka hippy/yuppies have used the system they 'fought for' in the 60's and kept what would 'strengthen' the hippy teepee started by FDR and failed to see that
NOT EVERYONE WANTS THEIR LIFE CHOICES WITH THE HIPPIES' IDEA OF WHAT IS GOOD FOR A PERSON....

they are at both ends of the spectrum and I am the 99%......the problem is something happening like 'We Are the Living'....very dangerous ground to tread.....

I'm not saying that government doesn't have a role.....but it shouldn't be that tasty to have a public job and one generation telling the next what is best for it.....the hippies made it what it is through
their own kids with the fabulous mottos of the 80's,,,,ie: just do it, the real me and every Schwartzenegger/Stalone movie ever made then.....and let's not forget the 'easy housing'  and the
easy credit plunked right on their backs.......

this is BEYOND party lines......

I'm pulling my 401k because the system is going to take it and give it to the college kids now and the medicare of the boomers.......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

Last night after midnight, the 99% protesting at lower Manhattan's Zuccotti Park were forcefully evicted.

Tents and warm clothes and laptops were destroyed or confiscated. The camp was cleared out and at least 70 citizen protesters were arrested. Reporters were kept away. And when a group of protesters locked arms in non-violent exercise of their First Amendment rights, tear gas was used to remove them.

It's time for us to make a forceful statement:

Protests can be shut down. But you cannot evict an idea whose time has come.

Sign our petition right now.

Last night's eviction was the latest in a pattern of forceful evictions of peaceful protesters in the last few days. Austin. Portland. Oakland.

The 99% movement has changed the direction of the public dialogue in America.

It has captured the imagination of millions of Americans. It has given voice to everyone who believes that when wealth and power are so heavily concentrated in the hands of the few, you have a Democracy in name only.

That view is only spreading and getting stronger.

Whatever happens, we'll keep demanding an economy and a democracy that truly reflect the needs and hopes of the 99% -- workers, students, retirees, mothers, fathers, kids, decent Americans everywhere. Enough is Enough!

Sign our petition: "You cannot evict an idea whose time has come."

Thanks for your ongoing support,

P.S. - Breaking update: A group of protesters have taken a new park in Manhattan at the corner of Canal St and 6th Ave. If you're in New York, please join us there as soon as you can. Map here.

Hours after baton-wielding cops cleared Occupy Wall Street protesters and their tents from
Zuccotti Park on Tuesday, a judge backed the clean sweep.

The ruling by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Stallman says that city can stop protesters from bringing tents, tarps and other camping equipment into the park.

The decision is likely to be appealed, so it was unclear if the city would immediately reopen the park to people without tent.....................>>>>.....................>>>>..................Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/new.....977674#ixzz1dodz8IMW
