Good for this kid! It's refreshing to see kids taking on a cause that they feel strongly about. Sure beats belonging to a gang and/or doing drugs!

In the private sector, wages are based on education and experience and job title. Sorry, but a dog catcher in the private sector wouldn't be on the same list as an executive....k? Bottom line is that ANYBODY can do that job. Which means the market is flooded with applicants especially in today's job market that could do the job. Bet the position could be filled by someone collecting unemployment for less money.

Please don't patronize me with your remarks.....now are we in a "class" mode?....doesn't matter to me who does the job....just don't put someone down for a job that you may think is below your way of thinking....
On Oct. 5 your paper ran an article, “Teen activist wins PETA award,” about a young man who has concluded that animals are mistreated in circuses, slaughterhouses and other places, via information obtained from PETA [People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals], and has now become a champion for animal rights It is refreshing to see an unselfi sh young people dedicating themselves toward helping others. However, this particular article also brings out another point which should not be overlooked. That being, the ease with which a recognized terrorist group (PETA) is able to influence, through halftruths, misinformation and outright lies, the impressionable young minds of today’s youth. These terrorists are smart and know just how to manipulate children into doing their bidding. In the current uncertain world, there are many who wish to use our own children against us. I urge all parents to monitor their children’s contacts and activities to avoid their children inadvertently becoming involved in or supporting terrorist activities.

On one hand, I am happy that a young person is getting interested and involved in larger issues beyond him or her self. On the other hand, I don't think it does the young person any good to pretend that some people legitimately disagree with the philosophy and practices of PETA. Part growing up and becoming an involved member of society - is realizing that NOT EVERYONE AGREES WITH YOU nor should they.
So Zach - congratulations on your award -- but keep studying the issue and not just with the books and info that PETA supplies.

First.....I congratulate the kid for doing something 'positive' with his life. It gives new hope for the younger generations.
Second....although I disagree with the editorial, it is the author's opinion and has a right to it. I also have the right to disagree with it. Not everyone will agree with everything. That's just the way it is in American. imho
