AVON is absolutely correct!

Listen......there are many issues in rotterdam concerning this project. Taxes should not be one of them. Taxes and new businesses is a moot point. why? Cause they never pay 100%! Taxes have risen in rotterdam EVEN with the new railex, fedex, recovery grill...blah blah blah!! What is their total contribution to the school districts? Even Long Pond APARTMENTS got a PILOT!!

Rotterdam is beginning to sound, look and feel just like the city. They try to pull the nonsense of creating businesses to lower taxes for the residents. How's that working out for the city?

So let's cut the 'tax fear rhetoric'......cause it is non-existent and has been historically!!

Agreed.....always said that....when I came to Rotterdam...it wasn't so sprawling......couldn[t pay much attention raising a family..

now at a juncture that I am paying attention to poliitics...doesn't change my opinions....but most seek office to be in office....don't offer anything but same o'

names and personal agenda....

The only way to change this is DIVERSITY.....put more good and qualified people into the mix.....not just the same o  same o......and don't say it can't be done

it can if the residents realize what DIVERSITY means and what it can do to have positive  change .......

Ask any of the TB is they have ever taken a Diversity Seminar......this town needs leaders that WANT to have change....and what has been going on for years

hs not the answer.... being passive makes acceptance.....Amen

to add....the political parties have to change their embedded ways.....are they born this way?????

Diversity has absolutely nothing to do with how to govern responsibly and for the taxpayers.

Rotterdam is long overdue for elected officials that are NOT home grown!!
Those that are not 'connected'.
Those that simply want to 'serve' for the betterment of their community.
Those that are SMART and have some COMMON SENSE!
Those that encourage and know what smart growth 'actually is' while protecting the quality of lives of the residents.

Something is wierd here.

On Rite Aide:   Why is the county assessment on Rite aid so much less than the munisicpal assessment or school district assessment.   The county does not have a separate assessor from the town?

On CVS:   I think your math is wront, it's actually a 41.8% exemption in taxes

Schenectady County reports the taxable assessed value which includes the exemption, and then next to it, they report the exemption.  If you add the two together, you would get the full market value assessment.

No, the math is right for CVS, the Full Market assessed value is $3.975 million with a $1.17 million exemption .  . . .

The residents of Rotterdam had a great opportunity last fall to support McGarry, Villano and Tommaselli -- the slate that offered a new unbiased approach.   The guys who held the residents' best interests as their priority.  Instead the voters defaulted to the Dems and they chose the "connected" bunch.  For some reason, the residents cannot imagine anyone but the good ole boys in office.
I'm really getting tired of this statement but here it goes...."the voters got what they asked for!"

So, what share of that will be now paid by homeowners when 5 corners closes and let's the property sit vacant - or worse, get absorbed by a roundabout?  answer, 100%.

You, and I both, b**ch when Metroplex makes US pay for the non-profits downtown, shifting the responsibility to the homeowners who pay the majority of taxes ... but this is ok?  Not with me it's not, and I'd bet - not with a LOT of people outside the 10-12 people responding here.

I believe a portion of the twon's piss poor planning can be attributed to a wait and see approach.  The town needs someone to go out and market the town go to builders or companies and encourage them to build in town in specific areas.  Of course we would need some sort of road map so the connected people don't push property of other connected people for development.  This might be a good job for someone on the planning comission or the Town Planner.

CVS should be made to take down or sell the abandoned CVS on Hamburg St before letting them build another. Are the property taxes paid up to date on the abandoned site?

Agreed. The road map would be a Comp Plan. But that was the plan from the tommasone administration.....then the liberals moved in where everything and anything goes.

That aside.....rotterdam is already full to the brim!! Altamont Ave STILL is dotted with residential homes....and so is Curry and Hamburg! There was NEVER any  consideration as to how they were going to mesh residential with mfh with businesses. Actually...and I don't mean to sound like a pessimist............it appears to be too late for rotterdam!! The irreversible damage has already been done.

As far as taxes go..............the residents NEVER benefit from 'new businesses'............NEVER!!! Again....a moot point.

Evidently diversity is just that......change and acceptance......

you need to go to a seminar......there is more to it than just that.....

and were you at the 5 corners about 11:30 AM ...today???......tractor trailers with big red letters blocking the traffic in front of TOPS

real jam.....then the truck pulled into CVS parking lot...

boy was that adverising or what???.....so, can't imagine this happening at 4 corners.....

this was very laughable and annoying ....Severson and the bunch should have been there.....but not even a police car to help with the chaos...

Wasn't that the idea behind Metroplex?  We see what a failure that is.

Part of the problem with the Tommasone administration is they were great at PLANNING.  The problem was, they CONSTANTLY planned, but never ACTUALLY DID ANYTHING.  Every single thing that came through was "studied."  The problem, they never took one G_d D__n TEST!  What we need is some action, but it must be smart, and not destroy the town for the sake of building it up.  That is where the 4 Corners CVS is falling apart.  They are trying to build up, but by building up here, they will be ripping apart a neighborhood, in fact, ripping a good portion of it DOWN.

The arguments posted here which are against the CVS at 4 corners are the biggest pile of bull sh*t that I have ever seen.   You folks b**ch about the taxes being too high and then b**ch about any new development which would help reduce the tax burden.  It is that kind of thinking -- saying NO to any progress which has crippled Rotterdam for the past 50 years -- and unless attitudes change ... Rotterdam will be left in the dust when it comes to economic development.
