Mr. Severson, I'm not saying that you ARE gravel gertie, but I'm not saying that you're NOT gravel gertie.  The fact is that you decided to go on a short hiatus over the past week or so.  I don't know the reason for this hiatus, it has been rumored to be vacation or medical.  Whatever the reason is, I find it quite interesting that both the pseudonyms DVOR and GG were absent from this board for the same dates.  If you are not posting under both names, and you wish to prove it to us, you may want to mention those that were with you during your hiatus, or may want to ask them if they are posting on this board, as they would be the other, then you can prove that you are not using both aliases.  As far as the Smoking Bananas name, I never really thought that one was you, as there's just too many differences there for it to be you.

#1) My reasons for my hiatus are personal.

#2) It is not my responsibility to prove that I am NOT someone ... if others mistakenly believe that I am that other person.      Fact is that I have my suspicions of who Gravel Gertie is .. I think Gravel Gertie's comments are OFTEN QUITE MORONIC and are MORE DANGEROUS than the comments of the "nattering nayboobs"  --- why?  because I have never attempted to hide who I am .. and I don't appreciate someone pretending to be me and making assinine comments and trying to attribute them to me.    I may be stubborn and opinionated ... but I don't need to nor do I pose under multi-personalities.   I may say some things that get others ruffled and upset  (and sometimes you folks don't know the difference between tongue in cheek and serious comments -- but that is life).
While I may give the nattering nayboobs are hard time  - with just a few exceptions - I do NOT personally dislike the NNNs.

Now that is settled -- lets move on to more important issues like --- which is better Saint Louis or Kansas City  BBQ

Another great subject for debate --- what is the best beer  -- type and brand -- to pair with your BBQ.
My preference is a dark, old-fashioned ,"European-style" beer ---- Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown has some great dark old fashioned European-style beers.       I also ran across several microbreweries in the heavily German part of Texas near New Braunfels that had exceptional beers of that type.

Why are we wasting time talking about BBQ's..people don't have the $$$$$ to spend any more eating out.

There are people who are starving ...Rotterdam doesn't need another bar, resturant, drug store, bank, fast food, pizza place etc.,    Start up a Community Pantry and help people in need... like the people in the
Junction....they seem to have been forgotten..

Rotterdam needs REAL business...where the young people can stay and work for a good living, instead of
having to more to another state or city.

BUT, there is life after ROTTERDAM to so many ex residents.

Given that the thread is about BBQ .. and intended to be about food and food related topics .. I deem all other comments to be out of line and not worth responding to.

Spoetzel Brewery in Shiner, TX has some great beers .. one that I particularly liked was Shiner Bock. It is great when paired with a traditional Texas BBQ of smoked brisket and kielbasa.

Speaking of Kielbasa -- Rudy's jalapeno kielbasa was great ... I am tempted to say that Polish-Americans in Texas make better kielbasa than the Polish-Americans in NY.

Speaking of good, old-fashioned, european-style dark beer, it makes a great ingredient in many recipes -- including my most famous recipe for roast pork tenderloin with root vegetables.
