Every time you open your mouth your ignorance shows. I was a first responder for 6 years for fire and paramedic, so don't even try to tell me you know anything about the subject.

Are you really as stupid as this post suggests ????

You could seriously injure or a kill a person if you tried to use a hose to shower them.

And just putting the generator up on blocks will not raise it high enough to be above the flood line --- you seriously need to actually SEE the plan and talk to the firefighters at District #5

GET INFORMED

I'm not the stupid one Ron.

My point was that there are ways the FD could get by for a while longer until the economy turns around rather than put this extra burden on already stressed tax payers.

And, if they can't raise the generator high enough to be out of the flood plain then why the hell would they be putting an addition on to that building instead of looking for higher ground?

Halloween cometh shortly:

You are arguing with a sick and twisted creature of some sort who will fashion a lie or call one of his higher-ups to fabricate one for him. Spending us into oblivion with reckless abandon is his only purpose in life, just like the rest of his demoCRAP cohorts that are fiendishly insatiable to run up every tab in sight in order to win the adoration of special interest segments of our community- cops, firemen, seniors, women, welfare leaches, single mothers, gays, teachers, unions, Little League parents, midgets, what have you.

As long as it results in the said special interests coming down in an organized fashion to pull the "D" lever loyally while they count on the disorganized, disjointed and un-united element (the taxpayers as a whole) to forget, be too busy to vote, be turned off by politics, have other commitments, give up wholesale, whatever. There is no secret to their electoral majik. This is the witchcraft of their sick and surreal tyrannical organizers. The little he-witches that prance around at the Obamanesque black masses of socialism that occur in the union halls, the 'peace rallies' and the covens of the bloodsuckers who have bankrupted America for 70 years. And sadly the cops, firemen and other middle class people have bought into it, not realizing that to sup at the tables with these werewolves is akin to slowing nursing a cocktail of fiscal and moral hemlock...a little more for you to drink is all they need to own your souls!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Obviously, you must have been pretty lousy at that -- so you aren't one anymore -- thank God -- because with your ignorant comments on the subject .. I can imagine that you probably weren't much good at it.

The generator and the communications/command system are IN THE BASEMENT -- which is below the flood level -- the proposal includes moving the generator, communications/command system  and other utilities (furnace, etc) to the FIRST FLOOR which is 4 feet ABOVE the 500 year flood level.  The addition would be similarly 4 feet above the 500 year flood level.

The fact is that the district looked at the option of building a completely new facility in a different location and THAT option would cost 2 to 3 times more.

Also- waiting until the economy improves will only guarantee that it will cost MORE  and during the waiting period another flood could knock out the generator and the communications/command center which would endanger lives and property.

Bottomline -- the current proposal is NEEDED, DOES NOT HAVE ANY "FLUFF ITEMS" and IS THE LEAST EXPENSIVE APPROACH TO SOLVING THE VARIOUS PROBLEMS.

What the hell was the generator and command system doing BELOW FLOOD LEVEL all of these years???? Who was the brain child behind that brilliant move? It appears that someone should have thought of this years ago when we weren't in the middle of the worse recession since the great depression. And in a town that is possibly looking at a double digit tax increase.

Rotterdamians have already lived through a 'sky is falling' crisis with the rems taxing district. They aren't going to fall for this rhetoric again!!

I moved out of the fire district I was in. At that time you had to be in the fire district to stay active. They changed the rule but I was already involved in another organization that works with youth.

Well, I really don't give a rat's you-know-what what the dimwit nayboobs do with their free time -- I am more concerned about maintaining and improving public safety .. and more concerned that the "just say no crowd" is spreading a bunch of lies and distorting the truth AGAIN.

The project is a good one -- VOTE YES.

Hope you don't count protecting the historic valuables of the town you so live in your proud record of accomplishments, but if you get your way, you can at least say that the fire house was built because of you and an entire neighborhood was decimated when the store you wanted moved in.

and WHERE are the taxpayers going to get the money to fund it????????    Are YOU going to pay for it for them?   Off the public dole from mama?

Are you such an ignormaus that you don't see that the economy is tough and people do NOT have the moneyt for these things?    Dang DV, your lack of EVER having owned a house and paid taxes is really showing.   Since you do NOT and have NEVER owned a house and paid taxes, you are oh so jealous of the working people that do, so you prefer that they are taxed right out of their homes, lose their homes so everyone is brought down to a lower level than you.  You are really jealous of people that are adults, working, having a wife or husband to love and be loved and experience intimacy with, raising a family, owning a house, being independent and self supporting.

You just keep cheering for government to spend spend spend no matter how it hurts people, no matter if people lose their homes.   Why don't you go move to some socialist country

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
