Talked to a friend last night who grew up in the Junction...........Mother-in-law still lives there (well not anymore) house was destroyed, total loss.........got $27k from FEMA........not going back

This is common all over the country. Someone is Schoharie got $22K.

No one could have ever planned for this type or magnitude of a disaster. A HURRICANE???? 2 Feet of snow is more of what we can handle!!

My friend works for FEMA and has traveled all over the country when needed. They told us that the insurance companies, the state/local government and FEMA all fight on who should pay for what. This process alone takes months and months...if not years as in the case with Katrina.

And while 99% of the folks are honest victims.....there still are the handful that will inflate and distort the facts just to get more money!!

Too many hands in the pot..imho!

Is one of the reasons that there is a question of money for Rotterdam Junction the fact that Gov Cuomo

did not declare it a disaster area. when all the other counties were included?   If that's the case, then where to
point the finger.

And if this is true, did the politics of this area play into the decision the Gov made/

The County Democrap Party DEMANDED that Cuomo NOT declare it a disaster area, so in order to make the budgetary woes become part of Frank DelGallo's budget. Apparently they didn't want to do anything that would help him politically. Cuomo always does what the local democrap party wants in relation to things that effect the local county. Apprently politics trumps decency for Tony Jasenki, A-jello Santabarbara, Diane Marco, Harry Buffardi and others.

ROTTERDAM — The impact of flooding in Rotterdam Junction on the town’s budget is staggering.
In the immediate aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene, town police burned through roughly an eighth of their annual overtime budget

Apparently the Chief of Police WAS NOT ABLE to get the job done and had to use half the overtime in his budget because of poor planning, and pension-padding needs for his soon-to-retire henchmen.

Maybe if they hadn't spent down the "rainy day" fund ... and proposed a budget that put money into an emergency fund (paid by department cuts) - we'd have some way to pay for this, other than looking for $ that's still >1 year out - if ever.

Pisspoor planning by ALL involved.

The town has a reserve fund  -- it was NOT spent down.

I agree Joe.  How couldn't the police department and the county have seen this 500 year storm coming.  If only they predicted it to happen when it did- they could have hired

10 extra cops to handle the storm prior to it happening.  And think of all of the money that would have been saved!

Awwwwwwwww, they should plan better there, instead of only working to plan election for the democrap party! Too bad. Very poorly planned on behalf of the brass. Maybe the brass ought to spend their efforts policing instead of worrying about to keep the Republicans out of office and working 1000% on democrap campaigns! They have become politicians now, not police!

The brass, making the highest pay of any brass should let the buck stop there, instead of making excuses. In the private sector, excuses get people fired.

Right on

Private sector wouldn't put up with these shenanigans.....

Government and Rotter politics has effectively spoiled the true meaning of what the "law" should know and do
TO SERVCE AND PROTECT......and it's not being done.

Is it true they refer to Rotterdam cops as      "THE KEYSTONE COPS" ?

AND

FDG tried his best but never had the FULL support of the TB once he got elcted....now he has the bull by the horns and no one likes it....KEEP AT IT FDG...the payback will be next year IF the other Gentlemens's Club plus One
gets seated.....then you can flip the bird.....a lot of people will support that

Not ALL cops agree with this mentality. They just don't openly say it!!! They can't!

Sadly the BRASS are politicians while the guys on the street are police. The BRASS becoming HYPER-POLITICAL is the issue.
