Albany resident a finalist for ‘Man v. Food Nation’ slot
August 9, 2011 at 2:02 pm by Steve Barnes, senior writer

John Lomascolo, an Albany native and graduate of Christian brothers Academy and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is one of five finalists seeking to be part of an upcoming episode of the Travel Channel’s epic-eating series “Man v. Food Nation.” The show, an evolution of “Man v. Food,” which featured host Adam Richman taking on eating challenges, allows viewers to become the competitive eaters.

Lomascolo, who is about to start law school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, says in his application video (screen grab at right) that, if selected, he would take on the Graveyard Burger at Wagon Train BBQ in Rotterdam. The 5½-pound sandwich includes a 1-pound burger, two fried eggs, barbecue sauce, four pieces of cheese, 8 ounces mac-n-cheese, 8 ounces beef brisket, onion “tanglers,” fried jalapenos, french fries and onion rings. It must be eaten in 30 minutes.

He’s vying for votes against men from Kansas City, Philadephia and Tucson and a woman from Hawaii

Lomascolo tells me, “I come from a large Italian family, with a lot of eaters, and I’ve eaten a ton of food my whole life.  I’ve attempted and defeated a number of eating challenges both around Albany and outside of New York.” Among those he mentions conquering in his video, all previous taken on by Richman, are a 5-pound burrito, 6-pound fritatta and 6-pound steak plus potato, salad and toast.

Voting on Facebook ends Thursday. To vote for Lomascolo:

Local native seeking spot on TV’s ‘Man v. Food Nation’
Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.

John Lomascolo is confi dent enough that he can fi nish 5 1 /2 pounds of greasy barbecue food in less than 30 minutes that he’s even willing to do it on national television.
The 23-year-old Colonie native is lobbying the Travel Channel’s “Man v. Food Nation” to give him a chance to do it. Lomascolo, a first-year law student poised to begin school at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, is among fi ve finalists vying for a chance to appear on the show with host Adam Richman. He’s hoping to do it by taking down the Graveyard Burger at the Wagon Train BBQ in Rotterdam. .......................>>>>...................>>>>................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00903&AppName=1

Now Shadow is calling for food to be 'banned'.  SO much for Freedom!

Certainly, if places like that are free to do this sort of thing and offer such largesse in one portion then there is too much freedom for businesses to harm people, and our local heath officials should be empowered to move forward to find solutions with the help of our political leaders to end this travesty. I am appalled and if my children wanted to order that then I have failed as a mom.

I couldn't care less what anyone eats!! none of my business!!

But I hate that show. I think it is disgusting and borders on gluttony!! But it's 'their' choice! So be it!

Really.  Too bad that Angelo Santabarbara's legislation to save us from ourselves didn't go against the little restaurants like this, and only went against the big (and growing) corporations, to make sure that they post the amount of calories on the menu from places that you order.

I wonder why Angelo hasn't pushed this law further, either to smaller establishments (which ironically would affect another legislator if it went to all restaurants) or to make sure that restaurants also put the calorie counts right on your receipts so it could follow you home, or you would know how many calories you ordered if someone else was going to pick up your food for you, since you couldn't look directly at the menu.

Gertie, where I agree with you is the part that if your children decided to order this, it would be placed on you, not the government, and I don't think that they should be stepping in to do this.  It is the way that the children are brought up, not the fact that the government needs to save us.  Take it as a "teachable moment" if you hear that your children want to try this and let them know why they don't need something like this, although looking at the size of it, any normal person would realize that is definitely more than one person needs at one sitting (or multiple sittings, by the sound of it).

Working families and mothers have enough on their ever increasing plate these days and they need a simpler way to prevent their kids from doing something as dangerous and harmful as engaging in this inappropriate behavior. I am all for legal penalties that would protect families and children and if as you mention, Legislator Santabarbara has a proposal in place to further protect children then I would heartily endorse it and call on our political leaders to work together to find such solutions. They need to look inside their hearts to do what is right for those people who have a propensity towards or suffer from obesity who may be endangered by unscrupulous business owners who would victimize consumers. They need to start here and level out the risks that so often lead to obesity, diabetes and a whole host of terrible, terrible illnesses brought on by the business owners greed.

You are kidding here...right? So the generations before us that had to work the land to feed their families, had to walk to work, shovel instead of snow blow, wash clothes by hand instead of auto machines, cut the lawn, if there were so lucky to have one, with a non motorized lawn mower, no microwaves, no weathermen, no 24/7 tv, no computers, made their own clothes in most cases, raise their own animals for their food chain, few doctors/hospitals..........come on!! It pales in comparison.

The truth of the matter is........today people are just too damn lazy. They don't have a clue what the hell 'a full plate is' other than watching 'man vs food nation'!

Pallllllleeeeeezzzz....give me a sharp object so I can stick it in my eye!!!!

Men of reason need to be on suicide watch when it becomes clear that so many democraps really DO agree with this insanity.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
