New York is No. 1—topping the list for the most expensive closing costs, according to a survey by Bankrate Inc. New York's total closing costs average $6,183 in 2011, combing origination fees of $2,210 and title and closing, $3,972. The next highest state is more than $1,000 cheaper than New York.
