Romney's core problem is this:
" He heads a party that must win two-thirds of the white working-class vote in presidential elections to
compensate for its weakness in almost every demographic category. The white working class is the most
pessimistic and alienated group in the electorate, and it especially fears and dislikes the kind of financial
methods that gained Romney his fortune."
David Frum on CNN

Did Romney Commit Perjury?

When Mitt Romney signed a federal financial disclosure form for his current presidential bid, he stated
under the penalty of perjury that he had not been involved "in any way" with Bain Capital after he left
for Utah in February 1999.

During a 2002 hearing to determine if Mitt Romney met the residency requirement to run for governor
Romney said that "after he departed Bain in February 1999 he went through a transition period regarding
his work in Boston."

"When a lawyer challenging his eligibility asked Romney, 'Did you remain more or less continuously in Salt
Lake City from February '99 to the end of the year,' Romney answered:
'Actually, there was some transition away from my work in Boston for the first few months and then I
pretty much stayed there after.' Trying to clarify this, the lawyer, after referring to this 'transition,'
asked, 'So from February through the end of the year you were pretty much full-time out in Utah, right?'
Romney replied: 'Well again, the beginning of the year was a good deal of time back and forth, but
towards the last half of the year it was pretty much exclusively in Utah.'"

"If there was a good deal of time back and forth in the first few months and some
business conducted all the way through to December ('pretty much exclusively'), and if Romney's
own lawyer tells an inquiry that Romney's work for Bain 'continued unabated just as they had,' then
it is incontrovertibly true that Romney's statement under oath that he was not involved 'in any way'
in Bain business after February 1999 was a lie under oath.

LOL!!  You are beating this one worse than the "war on women".

What is the unemployment rate and where is the Obama federal budget?  Is Gitmo closed yet? Shhhhh...we are talking about Romney possibly perjuring himself more than 10 years ago.

Speaking of the War on Women... If Romney had women on his side... Even Republican Women... he
might actually win.
But   unfortunatly for The Mitt... even Conservative women have abandoned him.

I think ALL people are abandoning our foolish political system.  It doesn't matter race, religion, or gender.  We are $15 trillion in debt, have troops fighting in undeclared wars over seas, and double digit real unemployment, and the president makes the national debate about a Romney statement to federal regulators more than 10 years ago?  You are kidding me - right?

Let's see... Romney has no support from Union members, minorities (all of them) and women (over 50% of the population)..
What does the fact of Romney still being within striking distance tell you?
It tells me that both these guys stink like NYC after a 2 week sanitation strike.

Agreed, most people I talk to say they are all the same and voting doesn't change sh1t. After the crap seen this election I'm positive change can't come from a ballot.

If Romney IS guilty of a felony on this issue... it is a B F'n Deal.  I doubt it will go to prosecution.

The reason that Romney is running like Forrest Gump away from Bain???
Romney is linked in his Bain dealings with a company named "Stericycle".
... (You'll love this one Cic)
Stericycle, a medical waste company that, among other things, disposed of aborted fetuses.

  Talk about poetic justice
Romney was in the Baby Body Business!

In this political climate, to get ANYTHING done, regardless of political theocracy, you will need a same party president, majority in the house of at least 40 seats, and a senate majority of 64-36 to avoid a filibuster, because you can always count 3-4 senators to lean the other way on BIG issues.. when is the last time we had that?

There has not been ONE current or former employee of Bain that has said Romney had involvement in any decision after he left in 1999. The ones that have come forward, including registered democrats, said Romney had no input. Cnn's John King has said this has no legs. Sounds to me like the birthers, or maybe  in this case, the Bainers

This issue may go away... there are lots of felonies committed every day that are reasonably "known"
but not provable in a court.
Personally, I think The Mitt was at Bain after 1999 but no one wants to pursue it further.

I think this issue will go the way of the Rev Wright campaign... it will always be there just under the
surface... and cause some voters to switch their vote... but will never have any other significance.

Quoted Text
Politics 101 says that when your campaign is bleeding — and Romney’s camp is bleeding right now — the best way to stop it is to get as many facts out as quickly as possible and then insist that it’s a dead issue and refuse to answer questions on it moving forward.

That won’t likely work for Romney because of the seeming contradictions about when he left the company — and the exotic nature of his financial life.

While most independent fact checkers agree that Romney had no involvement in Bain’s day-to-day operations after 1999, the fact that he was listed on Securities and Exchange Commission documents as chairman and president of Bain creates a fuzziness that allows President Obama’s campaign to continue to hammer away on the issue. (Make sure to read Fact Checker Glenn Kessler’s piece laying out the facts such as they are.)

That fuzziness was furthered over the weekend by Romney campaign senior adviser Ed Gillespie who said that the former Massachusetts governor had “retroactively” retired in 1999.

That phrasing might work in the business world but it points to the political problem Romney has with Bain. Regular people who aren’t CEOs don’t retroactively retire after three years in which they are listed as the head — whether titular or not — of a major company.

Therefore, trying to explain that while he remained — at least on paper or in name — the chairman and president of Bain to people is no easy task.

(It’s no accident that Obama’s team is working to build questions about Bain into a broader critique of Romney’s alleged lack of transparency on things like bank accounts in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands.)

Because of the the complex nature of Romney’s finances — and his on again, off again relationship with Bain — there is no simple way for him to put it in his rearview mirror.

Romney’s campaign seems to be trying a dual-tracking strategy to change the subject: stoking talk about the possibility of an early VP pick — perhaps as early as this week — and trying to re-take the offensive by hitting Obama for alleged political cronyism.

Neither are a bad approach. But with the Obama campaign showing no signs of letting up on the Bain issue neither will likely work. Romney is doing all he can do to make this Bain discussion go away but the complexity at the heart of his retirement ensures that it’s not a problem he can readily solve. His best bet now is to hope that it’s washed away in a few news cycles by the next hot storyline.

All this stuff is the pre show, just like Rev Wright and Palin was in 2008.
In 2008, it came down to the Economy, and McCain paid the price
It's going to come down to the September and October (if Oct gets posted before the election) unemployment and jobs reports this time around.
I don't even think a clash with Iran will change that (unless gas is at $5 a gal). Unemployment is at 8.2%, if it stays there, or doesn't get to 8.5%, point Obama. If the jobs report stays positive, even if its 50K, a point Obama.
Status quo is enough.. Romney is not dynamic enough to be a game changer, He's like Gore with better hair. IMHO, jobs growth would have to go negative at the last jobs report for Romney to win.

Actually, Romney gained his fortune the way most good Americans who still believe in the Constitution, Capitalism and our Judeo-Christian values applaud and attempt to emulate.   He was an entrepreneur who took risks and worked hard and ran a good business -- which in the end made him a wealthy man.

While you are questioning Romney's wealth and finances, you should explain how the Kennedy family managed to make its fortune through "rum-running" and parked it in offshore accounts and then used it to buy the political offices and positions of authority for 2 generations of its family members.   Then question Al Gore and John Kerry who inherited huge sums of money and have offshore accounts.   We should reopen the investigation into Al Gore and the Buddhist monks (who are not American citizens and take vows of poverty and don't even own the robes they wear) who handed him checks of $10,000 for the 1996 reelection campaign.
Or how about having Obama explain his relationship to the convicted felon Tony Rezko and how Obama landed up with that "sweetheart deal" for his home in Chicago ?    Or how Obama got college aid as a foreign student if he was a naturally born citizen of the United States ?

OR MORE IMPORTANTLY -- Why is Obama invoking Executive Privilege - which only applies to actions that take place in the Office of the President - to cover up Attorney General Holder's role in the Fast and Furious gun problem that allowed American agents to put guns in the hands of Mexican drug dealers and one of which was used to murder an American law enforcement agent ?

Bottomline - There is no way in good conscience that even this life-long Democrat could ever even think of aiding and abetting the reelection of Barack Obama as president.  Romney may not be perfect but at least he is not a person (President Obama) whose  metaphorical container of moral virtue is not just a little short or lacking  --- the damn thing is bone dry -- empty .

LMAO!  Total BS!
Romney got his fortune by being born into it.  Like GWB or JFK,  it's much easier to succeed if you have a father
like Daddy Romney or Daddy Bush or Daddy Kennedy.
