Citing ths town public safety building on Hamburg Street will not increase the business of the other merchants.
Neither will installing sewers.  Those projects will only result in increased property taxes

People travel to businesses that provide a product or a service that they desire at a reasonable price.  The
CDTA bus line was cancelled because there were no riders.  Restoring service to that area and running
an empty bus up and down Hamburg Street won't increase business profitability.

Think outside the box.  What will attract the public to that corridor?

it is all about having an upper union street in that area

you can spend however many millions on just the roads

or

spend even more money on the police station and  and get the roads for "FREE"

but you still dont have sewers

and you get your name on a plaque on the wall of the police station

Or is $35,490.00 the annual salary?
Or is the yearly salary $70,980.00??

In either case...........THAT IS HUGE!!!..........no?

Ok was anybody there that can explain why Grand Union would need to modified to deal with high winds? It has been there for how many years? And wind has not been an issue yet, just looking to spend more money......

As for the negotiation on the property, they paid $450,000 can think it is worth much more than that, unless there has been major renovation done.

Because of 9-11 everything and anything the govt' builds for "public safety" or "first responders" from a toilet stall to a police station now has to be built to bunker-buster proof, fire proof, earthquake proof, high wind proof, chemical weapon proof, biological weapon proof, dirty bomb proof, hurricane proof, tornado proof, small weapons proof, bazooka proof, EMP proof, out-of-control-Hummer proof, attack dog proof, hijacked-jet-airliner proof, and P.Oed' Kelly Rinesmith proof so that our hallowed first responders never are in harm's way no matter what, and never have to be put at risk by mad terrorists homegrown or foreign who may somehow harm them in any way, shape or form. As I have predicted (accurately) the police in some areas are getting Hummers to drive around in and will soon all be in armored cars as well, to go along with the intensely militarized training and persona complete with high tech wizardry and gimmickry all meant to lay down wither and suppressing fire and to respond to all threats with massive and irresistible force in any given circumstance. In other words, Police forces (led by politicized police chiefs) today want all the firepower and force of Seal Team Six, and Delta Force combined and they will also need state of the art facilities in order to deal with this overwhelming terrorist threat which is so daunting.

I think it is a mistake to spend money to buy the Grand Union building .. when the town already owns the Curry Road Plaza site.

It is a mistake to NOT put a sewer line all the way down Hamburg Street from the city line to the Thruway.

The town can't afford to be adding more real estate to its list of holdings -- use the land it already owns first --and  by developing the  Curry Road plaza site --- we could eventually relocate  the town hall, police department, justice court, highway department, senior center and youth center  -- and put  5 parcels back on the tax rolls.

We have got to start doing more LONG RANGE STRATEGIC planning in this town.

We already own a police station and yes I am sorry the building is old and not all cushy and modern and gleaming with chrome. Booo hooo. Too bad, the police officers' job is to be patrolling and not working out in the taxpayer funded gym, that is why there is a nice private sector gym on Altamont Ave to use.

Good Fu(kin luck, the money in town wont let that happen

the money is waiting for the blight that has hit coldbrook, crane st and broadway to move west then they can pickup those properties on the cheap

there some simple math on the triangle

250 appts at $500/ year = $125k a year into the sewer plant allowing for another 150 across the street

watch for more on the burdeck line  - old town construction,  the old car wash, fuez bldg  more MFH

the money will destroy this town with MFH, lack of VISION and and failure to see the trends in home ownership

this is what you will get supporting the swing vote

and none of this is good for the "pool business"

Once again not thinking, Curry Rd is a none option, a tear down and complete build will cost multiples of what Grand Union will cost.  Second, the Curry Rd site has a better chance of generating tax revenue if sold to a developer then the much smaller Grand Union parcel.  Town Hall is fine no reason to relocate it, it is functional and does not need to be an added cost on the town

Town Hall is NOT fine :
Town Hall does not have adequete parking  --- and there is no room to add additional parking.
Town Hall is a security nightmare waiting to happen -- any one can enter the building and access any part of the building  unchecked.

Money would be saved having all town offices on one campus --  not to mention that the Town Board Room sits empty for most of the week .. years ago  the Town Justice Court met in the Town Board Room .. there isno reason why they could not share a  "large meeting room" in a new municipal center.

The greater savings to the taxpayers would be  selling and putting back on the tax rolls   the current town hall building, current police/justice building, current senior center, current Boys & Girls Club property and the current highway department building ----   and the Curry Road Plaza site is large enough to make a very nice and adequate municipal center campus.

there seems to be a rush to judgement -- to buy the old Grand Union building -- there is a reason or reasons  that that site was passed over in the past .. but now all of a sudden it is being  pushed through.   My guess is that it is an Election Year gimmick ---  and the public won't find out the WHOLE TRUTH until after the election.

OMG this is mad. NOW we need a glamorous town hall too, in addition to the "needed" and glamorous police HQ. And why do we need a new court room?

Unaffordable and ridiculous and what is worse is that the town owned properties mentioned (ESPECIALLY town hall) are fully unmarketable to the private sector.

They fools can't print more money but they can "just" raise taxes. WHY? BECAUSE IT ISN'T THEIR MONEY TO SPEND!!!!

That's what politicians do, spend and waste the taxpayers money and when the town/city goes broke they blame someone else for it, most likely Bush.

The town needs a new police department and justice court  because the TRUTH is that the existing building is too crowded and in a very deteriorated condition.   THAT IS A FACT -- no amount of lies and insults from Mertz, Surhada and the other Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity will change that,

The senior center, the boys and girls club and the highway department are all housed in aging structures -- it would cost more to fix them up than it would to replace them with new facilities.

And let me make this clear -- I am not proposing a lavish building - I am proposing a new building or buildings all to be located on ONE common campus.     Where possible SHARING spaces ...    we only need one large meeting room for  Town Board meetings , Town Justice Court, Town Planning Commission meetings, Zoning Board of Appeals Meetings, Parks Commission meetings, and whatever meetings require a large gathering space.
Having all the town offices and departments on one campus means less money spent driving between the various facilities.  It would mean better oversight and better communications, too.

ALL of the older facilities could be sold and put back on the property tax rolls --- it makes great sense.

So then let the owners of the grand union rehab their own property and rent it out to the town. It would be a win/win!! Don't beso concerned with the senior gossip center building....just close it and sell it!! Then both properties would remain on the tax rolls and rotterdam would be millions richer for it.
