Tonko recently proclaimed a new bill he is sponsoring. This is my response to him via popvox.com, a website for easily contacting your rep or senator:

I oppose H.R. 1959: To deny certain tax benefits to oil and gas companies and to invest because this is a Pre-Memorial Day grandstanding and blame-shifting bill that will only add to the cost of gasoline. The real blame lies with the president's impeding domestic oil exploration and production. I love wind turbines and solar panels, but the cost in national security and economic growth of abandoning oil in the meantime is huge. It will be a long time, if ever, before so-called clean energy will replace fossil fuels. You have enough experience in energy to know this. I'm sure the jihadists will love you for this bill, but you're hurting your country.

You don't the half of it. Not just this moronic bill. Tonko also embarrassed himself by signing a petition attempting to end the naval blockade on Hamas murders. He was one of 20 extreme leftists in Congress to sign. He is more concerned with political correctness than stopping huge missiles from being fired into Israeli schools and hospitals. Next time you hear him drone on about human rights ask him about terrorists rights to arm themselves. A useful idiot.

This should be called "Tonko IS a Pain at the Pump, but it's not.  Check this out on YNN's website.

Quoted Text
GUILDERLAND, N.Y. -- Congressman Paul Tonko unveils a new plan aimed at driving down gas prices.

Tonko is pushing HR-1959, called the Pain at the Pump Act. Tonko says the bill would end subsidies and tax breaks currently enjoyed by oil companies. At the same time, it would also instead use that money to invest in clean energy resources.

Tonko says by closing those tax loopholes, the government would save nearly $3.5 billion by the end of 2012. Ultimately, the congressman says, it's money that oil industry just doesn't deserve, or need.

"Thirty six billion dollars is the profit to date this year for the oil industry. They are enjoying historic largest profits in their industry's run and it is important for us to recognize that if we don't do something here, if we don't adjust our behavior in Washington, they will over the next decade as an industry get $44 billion," said Paul Tonko.

The Pain at the Pump Act has been referred to several House committees for consideration.

He also has this story on his Facebook page.  Be sure to go and comment.

"We're going to fight back against those oil companies and make them pay for making so much money.

The remarks on his facebook page state:

We need to provide drivers with options at the pump. Gas prices are too high, and they are hurting families and small businesses. We also need to rein in speculators that use Wall Street to drive up the price of oil by putting more cops on the beat of oil speculators and catching them when it happens.

I notice that Tonko forgets to tell his constituents how much taxes that these evil oil companies pay and how much profit they get to keep after all those taxes are paid. Also a lot of that money is reinvested into exploring for new energy fields as well as finding more environmentally friendly ways to get them out of the ground. Politicians never tell us the whole truth about anything.

Tonko's alleged solutions always involve subsidizing unprofitable technologies and raising gas prices. He's an expert on saying nothing and double talking. Rep Weiner-North. A complete Obama buffoon who is laughed at in Congress. People wonder what the hell is wrong with the us that we keep re-electing him.

Just a note:
ExxonMobil paid no federal income tax in 2009.
and
"Also a lot of that money is reinvested into exploring for new energy fields"...  every dollar that they spend looking for oil is tax deductible...the taxpayers who DO pay taxes, subsidize Big Oil's exploration.

Cicero keeps trying but he NEVER seems to get it right:
~Stop Complaining...
I wasn't.

~buy ExxonMobil stocks...
Nope. Not a good choice.

~Try to be happy...
I am very happy!

~collect a stock dividend...
I do, several.

~instead of a government check...
Just my gumt check from my tax return.

When the facts don't agree with Cicero's agenda... he just makes up new facts.
However, Cicero should take his own advice and stop complaining.

Neither did GE under Obama. Please elaborate how raising taxes on oil companies and halting exploration will help pump prices? It won't. Tonko/Obama/Schumer cheer high energy prices.

Half of American companies pay NO TAXES!  Exxon/Mobile or GE are not an aberration.  They funnel their taxable dollars into foreign accounts to avoid taxes.

Since the recent increase at the pump is NOT caused by a supply problem... increasing the supply won't fix the problem.  The latest round of gas increases was caused by speculation due to Middle East unrest... not by supply.

(Then the typical Right Wing rant that seems to punctuate Conservative posts on this board:
"Tonko/Obama/Schumer cheer high energy prices"... yadda yadda yadda.  Obama is a socialist... Obama was not born in the USA... etc.  Except for using up bandwidth, it has little other use.)

Box, you have to admit that when Obama was campaigning for President he said in an interview that under his energy policy energy prices must necessarily skyrocket. He was true to his word. His energy czar also would like to see our gas prices on the same level as Europe by his own words.

It was just 3 short years ago, that when the price of gas went up, it was because George Bush was a "oil man" and he was helping his fellow "oil men" price gouge.  And he went into Iraq for Oil...All of a sudden, under Obama, it's out of Obama's control, and the free markets are controlling the prices.  Oh...And Obama NATO bombing the sh*t out of Libya out of humanitarian concerns(laughing) isn't causing the Middle East unrest.
