Ron Paul Wins Iowa Straw Poll Of GOP Presidential Candidates Posted: 10/29/11 08:03 PM ET
The Texas congressman won 82 percent in the National Federation of Republican Assemblies' straw poll, out of 430 total votes cast, followed far behind by Herman Cain, who took home 14.7 percent of the vote. Rick Santorum came in third with 1 percent, followed by Newt Gingrich with 0.9 percent, Michele Bachmann with 0.5 percent, Rick Perry with 0.5 percent, Gary Johnson with 0.2 percent, with Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman zero percent.
MSNBC reports that Paul's campaign purchased a large number of tickets for the straw poll and distributed them to supporters for $10, half off the price. I'll take the 5 to 1 enthusiasm gap that Paul has in the straw polls, these are polls you actually have to SHOW UP to. Romney and Cain may lead the telephone polling, but you tell me whose supporters are going to show up to the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire in January? It's easy to cast your vote over the phone in the comfort of your warm home. If they aren't showing up to the straw polls in September and October, what makes you think they'll show up at the real polls January? I think things are looking pretty bad for Romney, Cain, and Perry, and the enthusiasm at the straw polling is evidence to that. Paul is sitting in the cat bird seat. The more he floats the third party run, the more leverage he has to force the establishment to come his way.
The Des Moines Register poll among likely caucus goers:
~ Herman Cain 23 percent ~ Mitt Romney 22 percent. ~ Ron Paul 12 percent, ~ Michele Bachmann 8 percent.
Once again, the likely voter poll disagrees with the straw poll. Ron Paul can stack the vote with half price fundraiser straw poll votes, but among likely voters, he falls to a distant third.

McCain was running around 3rd place this time during the last election, Ron is running 3rd in most polls right now, something to think about

Once again, the likely voter poll disagrees with the straw poll. Ron Paul can stack the vote with half price fundraiser straw poll votes, but among likely voters, he falls to a distant third.
Once again, it's easy to tell a pollster you are likely voter on a 60 degree day in October.
Now, it's considered "stacking the deck" when your supporters are organized and enthusiastic. It's funny how the pundits redefine and down play these things that used to be big news and reflective of the strength of a candidates support. Luckily for me, I don't listen to establishment pundits with an agenda.

Yes, this is unheard of in straw polling...Paul is the only one that is doing it...The other candidates haven't caught on. It may be a strategy for Paul supporters to flood the straw polls. But to say it was because of a discount? C'mon. R U serious?
