Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul spoke in front of a packed house Friday night at the Lied Center on West Campus.
Ron Paul supporters lined up hours before doors opened, and Paul met their expectations. Paul received many standing ovations from a booming audience and touched on topics ranging from war to the government debt.

I am not voting for Ron Paul. I am voting for the constitution, for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I am not voting for Ron Paul, but for the principles for which he stands. I am voting for truth and “the American way”, for free markets and capitalism. I am not voting for Ron Paul, but for the movement called “the revolution”. I am voting for individual freedom and the right to “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” or take a few lessons from “the school of hard knocks”.

I am voting for the right to due process under the law, the protection against unreasonable search and seizure, and the right to possess weapons capable of defending those God given rights. I am not voting for Ron Paul, but for the ideal set forth by our founding fathers, for the great American experiment, for the representative republic that amazing men and women have sacrificed and died to keep and that I myself would be willing fight and lay down my own life to protect.
I am not voting for Ron Paul. I am voting for the right of political dissent, for the right to research each candidate, for the right to find quality information about those candidates, and for the right to proselytize those candidates that I feel strongly about. I am voting for men and women that represent my values, my principles, and will protect them against tyranny. I am voting for senators, congressman, and I am voting on both a local and national level. I am not voting for a man or woman who could be corrupted by power and prestige. I am voting for principles and based on principles that are not only foundations in this country, but principles that I want for my children and their children’s children.

A couple weeks back Ron Paul, the lonely delegate hunter, had only one full-time, embedded reporter on his trail: Anthony Terrell of NBC News. Other reporters have provided some coverage of the candidate, but for the last few weeks Terrell was the only proverbial boy on the bus.
But now, Ron Paul is officially embedless.
Earlier this week, NBC decided that Terrell would transition off the trail and back to his job with MSNBC. (It's tough to justify a reporter dedicated to a candidate who only draws 4%.)

A new Wilson Perkins Allen survey in Texas shows: Rick Santorum 35%, Mitt Romney at 27%, Newt Gingrich at 20% and Ron Paul at 8%.
Texas is Ron Paul's home state... The rest of America may not have ever heard of Paul, but certainly the people of Texas know him well, from his years of campaigning and holding a Texas congressional office.
If only 8% of Texans favor Paul... that doesn't say much about his ability as a congressman or a candidate.

Paul spoke for about an hour before an estimated 5,000 people, many of them chanting, "President Paul, President Paul," Wednesday night at Huff Hall on the University of Illinois campus.
The event had to be moved to Huff from Foellinger Auditorium because demand for tickets exceeded the seating capacity at Foellinger.

Ron Paul emerged this week atop a list of congressional representatives who’ve paid family members fees and salaries from their campaign war chests, congressional offices and political action committees, with one ethics advocacy group highlighting him for paying more of his relatives over the last two election cycles than any other member of the House.
Between 2008 and 2012, Ron Paul's campaign committee paid salaries to: ~ his daughter, ~ his grandson, ~ his daughter’s mother-in-law, ~ his granddaughter, ~ his grandson-in-law, ~ and another relative. His campaign also reimbursed Paul, several other relatives, and paid his brother’s accounting firm for various services. Paul's political action committee, Liberty PAC, also reimbursed some of Paul’s expenses, paid his brother’s accounting firm and employed his daughter.
