Got this from AARP.  I have edited it so that the letter you can send via that last link on the page is generic.
Just go to the link that takes you to Tonko website and you can put the letter there.

Right now, Congress is preparing to vote on a budget proposal that would effectively end Medicare as we know it – and put the health of millions of older Americans at risk.

Lowering the deficit doesn't need to come at the cost of seniors' health.

But House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's proposal would deny future retirees Medicare's promise of secure health coverage, and dramatically drive up their health care costs.

The House could pass Representative Ryan's budget as early as next week. We have to speak out now.

Tell Rep. Paul Tonko that you are counting on them to oppose these unprecedented changes to Medicare.

Tell him  to vote NO on the Ryan budget.

We can all agree it's critical to address our nation's budget crisis. But as Congress considers proposals to lower the deficit, we need to remind them of the real impact unfair budget cuts could have on real people.

Representative Ryan's budget would unfairly deny future retirees the benefits they've earned through years of hard work.  We must make it clear to Congress that we won't stand for proposals that seek to balance the budget on the backs of seniors.  Stand up for seniors today and tell Congress to vote NO on the Ryan budget.

Thank you for speaking up on behalf of all older Americans – and please take a minute to urge your friends and family to join you.

Sincerely,
Barry Jackson

Quoted Text
Dear: Congressman Tonko

Protect Medicare - Vote NO on the Ryan budget

I am deeply concerned about Representative Ryan's budget that contains unprecedented changes to Medicare. I am writing to urge you to vote "No" on this budget.

While I support balanced policies that would lower the deficit, I cannot support doing so on the backs of America's seniors. We must protect the benefits that future retirees have earned over a lifetime of hard work.

Congress should consider other ways to reduce costs for these programs, like speeding up access to generic versions of expensive biologic drugs used to treat diseases like cancer or reducing waste and fraud throughout the entire health system - not by raising seniors' costs or cutting the benefits millions of Americans depend on each day.

As you work with your fellow decision makers to resolve our nation's long-term fiscal challenges, I urge you to vote "No" on Chairman Ryan's budget proposal, and any other proposal that would seek to address our nation's budget crisis by denying future retirees access to guaranteed Medicare coverage.

Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,

AARP ceased to be an advocate for Seniors when they started to sell health insurance. They will have to compete with other insurance companies and they don't like that.

Throw Grandma out of her wheelchair and take away her Medicare... but millionaires get a tax cut!

Amazing!

AARP is a farce but I figured I would let folks know where I gathered the info.  I used to belong to it and quit cause it is corrupt.  I understand the Feds are investigating them about different aspects of how they endorse various insurance companies.

Go figure. Each Scud missile costs One Million dollars and we sent hundreds to Libya.  Go figure our Feds put funding towards killing and take away from those who put this county together.  Our Seniors.

The only thing being phased out of Medicare is the Federal Government, the money will be given directly to the states to spend where it's truly needed instead of funding a huge bureaucracy known as the Federal Government who presently administers Medicare.

Read the proposed plan for the budget and it states the Federal Government will allocate the money to be given to each state to fund Medicare and Medicaid and distribute the money where it's needed. It also prevents the Federal Government from forcing mandates on the states that they can't pay for in the Medicare/Medicaid systems.

I agree that you correctly stated the Republican plan...  the unbelievable part is that the states will "distribute the money where it's needed" part.
In a time when social security is being cut, while the top 5 US corporations evaded paying $23 billion in taxes, while we funded a tax cut for millionaires...
there isn't a chance that any money will go to seniors health care.

If the Republicans have their way, there will be another tax cut and grandma will be dumped out of her wheelchair.

I don't believe this is abolishing medicare. It appears to be more like 'medicare reform'.
Similar to Clinton's 'welfare reform' which was considered a success.
I think that they should at least 'try' to reform medicare as it can not sustain itself in it's present form.

As far as AARP....I know many many people that once belonged but no longer do.

AARP supports the idea that All Americans Should Have Health Care (just like all developed countries of the world)

That 'radical' idea turned the Rabid Right against AARP.

Well, all Americans DO have Health Care.  Just like devloped countries that include Cuba.  They do it the best.

Let them 'try' to reform medicare like clinton reformed welfare. I think we can all agree that 'something' needs to be done to change the current path medicare is on.

What an old argument.  It is stale now.  Nobody buys it anymore.  The only way grandma would be dumped out of her wheelchair is because you leftist won't lift a finger to help anybody or use your own money, unless you are getting paid by the government.  The most liberal communities are statistically the least charitable.  Liberals don't want to help individuals, but are rather control the totalitarian state.

The lack of Federal Government Programs doesn’t kill people.  People can take care of each other without multi-billion dollar centralized government bureaucracies.
