Rotterdam will literally step over a dollar(or hundreds of thousands) to pick up a penny(in a tip jar).

That is total BS.  Those waitresses can take tips and they deserve them.  The kids who are counelors get tips f rom parents as well.  I think it is unethical if you DON'T tip.  And what about the little Christmas presents people give to the teachers at the Center?  Are you taking those back?  You're thinking on this issue is a little screwed up.

A. The purposes of this chapter are:

(1) To establish high standards of ethical conduct for officers and employees, whether elected or appointed, paid or unpaid, of the Town;
(2) To afford such officers and employees of the Town clear guidance on such standards;
(3) To promote public confidence in the integrity of the governance and administration of the Town and its agencies and administrative offices;
(4) To require public disclosure of financial interests that may influence or be perceived to influence the actions of Town officers and employees;
(5) To facilitate consideration of potential ethical problems before they arise, minimize unwarranted suspicion, and enhance the accountability of government to the people;
(6) To insure that Town officers and employees, whether elected or appointed, paid or unpaid, be independent, impartial and free from conflicts of interest in fulfilling their public responsibilities;
(7) To provide for the fair and effective administration of this chapter.
B. This Code of Ethics represents a balancing of the need for eliminating real conflicts of interest with the recognition that membership in voluntary organizations devoted to public service is a laudable endeavor which should not be discouraged.C. This chapter is enacted pursuant to § 806 of the General Municipal Law of the State of New York and § 10 of the Municipal Home Rule Law and is not intended to authorize any conduct prohibited by Article 18 of the General Municipal Law. This chapter also supplements other provisions of law regulating ethics in local government, such as § 107 of the Civil Service Law of the State of New York.
D. This chapter shall be given its broadest possible interpretation under law, so as to implement its stated purpose

if the ethics board attorney cannot read the simple rotterdam code and understand it

one has to start with a binary process, the number one, as in a penny or zero, nothing

based on the opnions here on rotterdamny.info the ethics board should be very busy

tip jar  - dead to rights as it is CASH - and i believe the "jar" says donations - implying a gift to the town/senior center

if the employees need donagtions they should wear the correct sign and carry a cup - like those who claim to be homeless and unemployed in states like Florida

"on the public dole - i need a raise and more hours"

btw non cash gifts  - under $75 no big deal

post the ethical issues and lets see if any stick

Tippy, enough about the stupid senior gossip center tip jar!! There are hundreds of thousands of als dollars missing! Direct your energy there. If you can't, then petition to close the senior center and save the taxpayers $$$$$.

What about fdg's salary, that he never took, that he 'gave' to the gossip center kitchen, that he never paid taxes on, that he takes the  hero credit for? OPEN YOUR EYES TIPSTER!

Have you directed your efforts towards the missing ALS money?  Have you gone to TB meetings demanding
to know where the money is?  Employees need to follow the rules, that is why they were put in place.  Yes, I
know the police get discounted food, etc...blah, blah.  If you don't like it then say something, out in public,
not here hidden behind a fake name and do not tell me to do the same, I HAVE!
