Coveted Senate seat
Marv Cermak

State Sen. Hugh Farley has been a member of the Legislature for a long, long time. Before winning 18 two-year Senate terms, the Republican was victorious in two Niskayuna Town Council elections.
Democrats threw a ton of money at Sue Savage and the kitchen sink at the veteran politician last fall. When the smoke cleared, Farley had upped his election victory record to 19-0. The Dems believed the 78-year-old senator was slipping, but he wound up with 65 percent of the vote.
I told Farley a line is forming to take his throne even though today he starts only the third month of a two-year term. "They all want my job,'' was his response.
Assemblyman Jim Tedisco has recently been working at lining up GOP leadership support to run for the seat once Farley retires.
George Amedore, another assemblyman, has told friends he would like to be considered for the job, and former Amsterdam Mayor Joe Emanuele is interested. Add Jim Buhrmaster, a Schenectady County legislator, to the mix.
"Sure I'd like to run when Farley retires,'' Buhrmaster said when I came upon him leaving the Rotterdam Square cinema last weekend. "But Tedisco's longevity should earn him the shot ... I'll support him.''
Potential candidates can jockey for position all they want. Farley said he has no plans of heading for the rocking chair.

When Hugh Farley retires -- they will move him to the State Museum and display him with all the other dinosaurs.

Like the DEM City Council fossils? Some have been around for decades. Doing what is another question. After Landslide Savage's/McCarthy's humiliating defeats, no DEMS should even consider being another sacrificial lamb. This seat will stay REP for many more decades.

If it remains in GOP hands -- it is only because of the gerrymandering that put thousands more Republicans inthe district than Democrats AND because the GOP only  "talks" about fiscal conservatism but NEVER actually delivers.

Where was the outrage from the teapartiers at Farley's lavish taxpayer funded vacations???
Where was the outrage from the teapartiers over the hundreds of thousands of dollars given to Farley by
Big Business, Wall Street bankers and other nefarious Special Interests ????
Where was the outrage from the teapartiers at Farley's unwillingness to end the unfunded state mandates
that are crippling our counties and towns ???

The teapartiers weren't outraged because it was one of their own who was making out like a fat cat and
bleeding the taxpayers dry.

He's a energy maven. Never has someone expended less energy representing anything. What a far cry from great DEMS Sam Stratton or Mike McNulty who was at least pro-life. Taxin Tonko's a constant presence for freebies at Proctor's and every festa.

As far as State Senate DEMS should go back to Gary McCarthy. A perennial loser for anything except unopposed City Council.

this is where you are mis-informed......teapartiers want the dinosaurs OUT.....BOTH PARTIES....because there IS outrage.... Tedisco
is a dinosaur to.....dont think there isn't outrage.....the teapartiers that aren't in it for the parties(both kinds) are educating....that's
how votes are won....and we dont care about PC Parties......knowledge about the system(not personal) ALWAYS WINS....and
voters need to be reminded that there is power in their vote....however, if there are hacks involved(they cant always be exposed)
and they F up, it's anarchy.....so the 2 major parties and their FOSSILS better ship up or ship out.....we're tired of being rats in
a cage.....

The teapartiers said NOTHING about Farley's outrageously  expensive taxpayer funded vacations --
many of the teapartiers supported Farley  .. in fact
so obviously the teapartiers do not have any real convictions

that would be like me saying---and I'm going to say it------you have no real convictions bacause you support BG and FDG

maybe some teapartiers(not real ones) believe in 'saving' their party by pretending to be something else.....they made their
bed they should sleep in it..... and so did you....

I think tea partiers are pretty whacky.  I  have worked with Farley's office several times.  In fact just last week we gave out a booklet that he published for a senior organization.  He's ok--but time to go.  Tedisco--REALLY TIME TO GO.  I think Farley has done some pretty underhanded things on taxpayer money but he has also done a lot of good.  But--the party is over.

Mr. DelGallo and Mr. Godlewski made a lot of promises -- open and transparent government .. that they would work AS A TEAM with their fellow board members.

Unfortunately, THEY did not live up to their words.

Unlike the teapartiers and the pseudo-conservative GOPers who fawn over Farley,  I have PUBLICLY denounced the tactics of Mr. DelGallo and Mr. Godlewski.    So I have a clean conscience in the matter -- I have moved on and am looking at OTHER candidates to support in the future.
