Mmmmmm--- not exactly true -- I know a number of people who have very good jobs as a result of "the arts" ...  including  my cousin's son who is the head of security at a museum in California.

over a bunch of folks that make what....$10/hour.....BIG PICTURE THERE.....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

The "Reich-wing" doesn't appreciate the arts ... unless it was a German opera  .. so they need something to complain about.

This is funny on many levels. Mercury Morris tried live opera telecasts from Europe-no one except Karl went. Complete flop. Proctor's forces employees to take summers off with no pay. They still lose a million on  theatre therefore need coffee, Cap Rep, community tv and catering. No line for coffee at Lion King! No one waiting at all.

You said that the arts do not provide jobs that people can live on -- My cousin's son is married, attending graduate school, owns a condo  --- all on his salary that he makes working for an entity that is in the "arts".

So obviously your statement was false - the arts DOES provide jobs that people can live decently on.

Hate to burst your bubble but he can do that job anywhere.  Being the Arts has nothing to do it.  He is a rent a cop

Actually, he is in charge of security for a major museum with quite valuable art works -- so he is a lot more than a "rent a cop".

The fact is that the institution is in the "arts" ... the museum and similar "arts entities" create jobs ---- the other poster claimed that the arts do not create  jobs that people can make a living at.     That poster's statement is 1000% wrong.

And lives in California not Schenectady! We are talking about jobs in Schenectady. Nobody cares about some security officer in California where the pay must be higher.

Proctor's is all about volunteers who love the theatre and are largely retired. Great! But that does not add anything to the economic mix. This County need high paying industrial union jobs. Not more below minimum wage jobs that Death Ray specializes in. Your thinking is the reason why this County is the highest unemployment in the region.

The statement was made that the "arts" do not create jobs --- the statement was wrong.    Wrong Wrong Wrong  -- the arts have created jobs in Schenectady and California and a lots of places in between.

So why don't you go back to your corner --- have a time out --- and reflect on the utter stupidity of your hate-filled, jealous harangues against the real progress that is being made in the county.

The only thing of real value ANYWHERE is your soul  ..and they can't steal that.   Of course, I think a few of the folks who post here have sold their souls to the devil -- but that is a different topic.

"real progress" def-highest unemployment in the region, highest property taxes in the Nation, County sales tax on home heating oil that the DEMS refuse to eliminate, sales tax rate higher than neighboring Counties, DEMS that understand the importance of high taxes destroying every private business, highest vacancy rate for commercial property, home resale values down 40%, expanding nonprofits that refuse to pay any PILOTS.

Keep up the "progress"-DEM implosion team!

Whenever planners have empty retail they fill with "arts". That's OK if you have some retail. We don't. They tried selling "art" at 440 State-no one bought so they gave up. You need artists and buyers. We have neither. These DEM morons don't know who to create an environment for private sector growth. A 3 legged stool and they keep propping up only one leg. Then they wonder why it tipped over.

I have spent ALOT of money and time downtown....to check up things....it looks nice, yes,,,,the jobs there dont pay for a home with
taxes.....sure, it's ok if one is at the top of the pyramid.....

anyhow, the return is zippo right now.....the rest of the county body isn't getting 'perfused' from this ventilator....how long do we do the
bedside vigil? until we lose our jobs?

mmm ... almost 80,000 tickets sold for the Lion King ...  I was talking to a gentleman who owns a Schenectadyarea restaurant  and his place is booked up for reservations.

The "arts" bring in the people who will spend the money -- so .. AGAIN .. the "arts" is a great investment .. especially when you have a  WORLD CLASS facility like Proctor's.       The Natterning Nayboobs of Negativity are too provincial to comprehend that there is a HUGE world outside the bunkers in their back yards .. and people from around the world who have come to Proctor's are impressed with the facility and the programming put on there.
That is why it has been such a catalyst for Downtown Schenectady's ongoing Renaissance.

Gee, if they are netting $50 a ticket, that's $4 million.  We should expect a LARGE PILOT payment for the years of leeching.
