Union Head Richard Trumka Sees AFL-CIO as Socialist Vehicle
Written by Mary McHugh
Monday, 10 January 2011 09:45http://www.thenewamerican.co.....as-socialist-vehicle

In an Internet video piece dated September 27, 2010 which recently made the rounds of conservative media, AFL-CIO boss Richard Trumka explains his union’s intention to be a tool for social change and to bring about a “progressive America.”

Though his manner of expression is reminiscent of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino’s indefinite grammar, the stark meaning behind Trumka’s words in these sound bites remains unmistakable:

we’re the last line of defense out there. I mean, I got into the labor movement — not because I wanted to negotiate wages. I got into the labor movement because I saw it as a vehicle to do massive social change to include the “lots” of people. [Emphasis added.] That’s why I got into the labor movement.

I’ve been trying to build permanent coalitions. We’ve been asking our state feds and our central labor councils to reach out and start building permanent coalitions with young workers groups, with student groups, with religious groups, anybody that’s a progressive group to bring them in and actually make them part of the structure. So that we have representatives on our executive boards now that come from community groups so that that voice is always there and we’re actually helping back and forth.

A female commentator then addresses him:

You know the idea of labor as part of that progressive coalition so it’s rooted in the broader community … is labor part (of), for example — and we don’t have a sense of how it’s going to turn out — but there’s a lot of energy around it: The "march" on October 2?

Trumka replies:

Oh yeah — we’re right at the beginning of that. We were part of the planters, we were doing all that. And that’s actually a two-fold strategy. It’s trying to bring progressive groups together to give America a vision of what a progressive America would be like — talking about a job creation of the middle class, rebuilding the middle class. We’ve got progressive groups all over. We’re lock, stock and barrel in the middle of that

Fake Doctors’ Notes Being Handed Out at Wisconsin Gov. Union Rally
MacIver News Service | February 19, 2011  12:05pm

[Madison, WI] As tens of thousands of public employees skipped work this week to attend protest rallies outside the Wisconsin State Capitol, many wondered if they would face any disciplinary action for unexcused absences.

On Saturday, a group of men and women in lab coats purporting to be doctors were handing out medical excuse notes, without examining the ‘patients.’

“I asked this doctor what he was doing and he told me they were handing out excuses to people who were feeling sick due to emotional, mental or financial distress,” said Christian Hartsock. “They never performed an exam–he asked me how I was feeling today and I said I’m from California and I’m not used to the cold, so he handed me a note.”

Another woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said they were handing out excuses like they were leaflets.

“I asked if they were handing out doctors’ excuses and a guy said yes and asked me if I needed one,” she said. “When I told them I needed one for February 16 and 17th, he wondered if I wanted to come back here for the protests next week.”

What happened next?

“I said, ‘sure,’ and I received a doctor’s note for the 16th through the 25th of February, without a medical exam.”

The notes read

Feb 19, 2011

Patient’s name______

Date of birth ____/_____/_____

To Whom it May Concern:

This is confirm I have seen and evaluated the above named patient.

Please excuse from work/school due to a medical condition from

____/____/____ through

Please contact me at badgerdoctors@gmail.com if additional information is needed. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Physician  Signature:

Physician Name

WI license number

Based on an examination of the signature and medical license number provided, one of the men handing out these notes was purporting to be James H Shropshire MD, a  Clinical Associate Professor at the University Wisconsin Madison.

if anyone thinks that having national healthcare wont lead to such as this is sadly mistaken....

a populace can be driven by fear of

lack of child care/education
lack of healthcare availablity

those who control the guns control the masses
those who control the $$ control the masses

(I guess guns could be changed to any number of fears)

Just remember, when it comes to National Healthcare, that this is not the first push for it.  The first time there was a push for it, they didn't go for full national healthcare, and instead, we finally ended with insurance only for the elderly and for the indigent, Medicare and Medicaid, which both came into effect in 1965.  Later on, it was expanded to "save the children" with SCHIPS.  Now, they're just on the final push for all out control.  It needs to be turned back.

Obama Provides Support to Unions in State Battles
Published February 19, 2011 | Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Organized labor is trying to re-energize and take advantage of the growing backlash from the wave of anti-union sentiment in Wisconsin and more than a dozen other states.

President Barack Obama and his political machine are offering tactical support, eager to repair strained relations with some union leaders upset over his recent overtures to business.

The potent combination has helped fan the huge protests in Wisconsin against a measure that would strip collective bargaining rights from state workers. The alliance also is sending a warning to other states that are considering the same tactic.

"I think it's a clear message," said AFL-CIO political director Karen Ackerman. "If you take on middle-class people and try to solve the budget crises on their backs, there's a price to pay. Many thousands of people will be energized to fight back."

For Obama, stepping into a confrontation with a governor has its risks. The president is in a struggle of his own to tame spending, and siding with unions may cast him as a partisan even as he talks about setting a new tone in Washington........................>>>>...................>>>>................http://www.foxnews.com/politic.....tate-budget-battles/

Obama needs the money from the unions for his campaign in 2012 and as Senders always says, those who control the money control the masses.

"I think Democrats here are upholding the right principle," said Democratic pollster Mark Mellman. "Failing to give support to this principle would be a real problem as far as the Democratic constituency is concerned."

define that principle....that unspoken secret.....what principle? the one that prevents the rest of the 85% of the middle class to function because of the
bullies.....honestly that is NOT a good principle.....they are elevating a few over the masses......I think that's a very very bad principle.....

sounds like EGYPT to me

mubarak=union leaders/friendly politcians
egyptian police=union workers
protestors=the rest of the middle class

GET OFF OUR BACKS-------you will survive without these morons using you as a pawn....you are pioneering Americans for heaven's sake...get up and act

Union Membership In America

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, between 2008 and 2009 unions lost 770,200 members - a loss of 834,400 on private payrolls and offset by a gain of 64,200 in government employment.

As a result, the percent of the total workforce that belonged to unions fell from 12.4 in 2008 to 12.3 in 2009. On private payrolls it fell from 7.6 to 7.2 percent and in government employment it increased from 36.8 to 37.4 percent.

The source of the information is the BLS's Current Population Survey. In both instances the small increases were within the margin of error for the survey. Click here to see the whole BLS "Union Members Summary" report for 2009.

There's a good reason union membership is so much higher in government. Politicians have bartered the dues of public employees for union political support. Maybe public employees are getting tired of being exploited for the political gains of their union bosses and the politicians.

There was a time when things were different. In the mid 1950's more than 35 percent of all employees on private payrolls were union members. But then unions decided to focus more on political power than representing the interests of workers. Not surprisingly union membership has been on the decline ever since.

Unions like to blame their failure on opposition from management but the fact is that the working people of American have rejected the unions' class-warfare, us-against-them approach to employment.

Proof of this is available from several sources. According to a 1999 Gallup survey only 21 percent of employees who aren't union members would like to be in a union.

A Zogby Poll conducted in 2005 found that only 16 percent of employees said they would definitely vote for union representation compared to 38 percent who said they would definitely vote against. When you combine those who would definitely and probably vote for a union compared to those would would definitely or probably vote against a union the numbers were 36 percent for and 56 percent against with the rest undecided.

Another indication is the results of National Labor Relations Board Elections. Even though employment covered by the NLRB grew by more than 2.3 million jobs in 2006, the NLRB conducted only 1,755 union representation elections covering 87,172 employees. Unions won 60 percent of these elections but they don't petition the NLRB to conduct an election until they think they have a pretty good shot at winning.

In other words, even when they thought they had a good shot at it the unions only won 60 percent of the time and only tried to organize workers in less than 4 percent of the new jobs.

The NLRB also conducts decertification elections - elections where employees petition to get rid of a union - the unions lose about 65 percent of the time.
