Bradlees and Wards were both good "in their day" -- when those were failing and finally left --- the mohawk mall suffered and eventually died.

And it is up to the owners and managers of the mall -- to attract the right anchors and mix of stores and restaurants.

You mean like total failure Death Ray attracted stores Downtown?-lol And it's up to the all DEM government to run efficiently and keep taxes and fees reasonable. That doesn't happen when regressive sales taxes are thrown down the Metrograft toilet.

The mall owners are not operating in a vacuum. They have to deal with conditions on the ground. No one wants to operate a business in this socialist paradise.

Rotterdam Square Mall has been in bad shape --- for a number of years -- starting during the time the GOP controlled the County Leg and Metroplex ...
oh -- and it was the GOP controlled County Legislature that raised instituted the county sales tax in the Schenectady County ......   so lay the blame where it really belongs .. at the feet of the bloated GOP elephant.

Rotterdam Square could house the elementary kids for the Schalmont school.....or just turn into a homedepot and checkhill farms.....because
let's be real here only the farmers shop there and that's OK to.......

Actually, the farmers shop at the Super Wal-Mart in Amsterdam or Cobleskill.

They need to get Death Ray Gillen more involved. Then it can look like St James Square in Nisky. Desolation Boulevard. But did you hear that nonprofit mooch Mercury Morris just bought 3 more businesses? Woo Hoo!

Nonprofit solution: Open up Proctor's II at RSM. No taxes, no fees! But it will attract the artsey-fartsey crowd for lunch at McDonalds or Friendly's.

If either were there anymore, then maybe

A mall succeeds or fails on its anchor stores. You have to have at least one upscale anchor store to be viable.
Mohawk mall failed because of Bradlees and Wards. Northway mall failed because of Wards and Korvettes.
Penneys came too late to save Latham Circle.
Rotterdam square has K-mart, which has slipped below Walmart and a half assed Sears. That, and being a one floor mall is a recipe for empty spaces and eventually an empty mall.

One issue that prompted many not to shop at Rotterdam Mall is that it became a place for irresponsible parents to
drop off their minor age children to be supervised by the store owners.  The antics of many of these youth reflect
the lack of discipline in their homes.  As a parent with young children, I would not expose them to the behavior of
these hooligans.  Several merchants confided to me accounts of shoplifting problems and fights amongst the
juveniles.  I observed the same issues at the former Clifton Country Mall when it housed the CAPTAIN Youth Center.

While Colonie Center and Crossgates ban unescorted minors at night RSM welcomes them. This chases away seniors and actual buyers. As far as anchor stores-what's Macy's chopped liver?

Corporate executives look at disposal income. This County with its regressive taxes and high unemployment does not have the disposable income necessary for higher end retail. Unless someone reinvests money in this mall it will be soon close. When you can't even support a McDonald's the end is near.

Macy's -- the whole company not just the RSM  store - is not what it used to be -- I haven't shopped in any of their stores in about 2 years.  You can't find anyone to help you when you are shopping there.
Unfortunately, one has to travel out of state to find decent department stores anymore.

And just what stores would those be that you cannot find in NYS?
Are you saying that
Bon Ton,
JC Penny,
H&M,
Lord &Taylor,
Macy's,
Kohl's
are all not decent enough for your needs?  All within short driving distance of Rotterdam and much closer than out of state?
