Woman allegedly
stole from mother

    SCHENECTADY — A Schenectady woman has been charged with grand larceny for allegedly embezzling money from the Department of Social Services by using an account in her mother’s name, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Offi ce. Palmatier
    Kathleen A.
Palmatier, 58, of 1027 Ostrander Place, was charged following an investigation by the sheriff’s offi ce.
    She is accused of embezzling more than $25,000 from her mother who was under the guardianship of the Albany County Department of Social Services. The complaint alleges Palmatier used an invalid power of attorney to setup a bank account in her mother’s name. The defendant then funneled the victim’s General Electric pension checks, which had not been reported to Albany County, into the fraudulent account, police said.
    Palmatier is accused of the embezzlement between June 2006 and June 2010. She turned herself in to investigators Tuesday.
    Palmatier was arraigned in Albany City Court and released on her own recognizance.

Man accused of illegal gun sale
    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces a gun sale count, accused of illegally selling a gun in October, authorities said.
    Andre Francis, 24, of Delamont Avenue, was charged Tuesday with third-degree criminal sale of a fi rearm, a felony.
    Francis is accused of selling a Colt .357 revolver from his Delamont Avenue residence Oct. 14, according to papers filed in court.
    Francis also faces one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, accused of possessing more than two ounces of marijuana Tuesday morning at his home, according to papers.

2 men accused of
having stolen gun

    SCHENECTADY — Two city men face felonies, accused of possessing a gun during a traffi c stop, authorities said.
    Charles Lewis, 20, of Seward Place, and Jose Serrano, 20, of Strong Street, were charged Tuesday with one count of seconddegree criminal possession of a weapon.
    They are accused of possessing an AMT .380 caliber handgun found by police under the passenger seat. Lewis was identified as the driver, according to papers fi led in court.

Bronx man accused of pool cue attack
    SCHENECTADY — A Bronx man faces a felony assault count, accused of hitting another man with a pool cue, authorities said.
    Macklin Rodriguez, 24, was charged Thursday with one count of second-degree assault, a felony, along with fourth-degree criminal mischief.
    Rodriguez is accused of hitting the man with the pool cue just before 3 a.m. Thursday at an Elder Street residence, according to papers filed in court, causing several small cuts. He is also accused of breaking an overhead lamp.

Ex-couple charged with assault
    SCHENECTADY — An excouple face charges, accused of assaulting each other last week, authorities said.
    Madelyn Rivera, 27, of Yates Village, was charged April 8 with one count of second-degree assault, a felony.
    Rivera is accused of hitting 22-year-old Daniel J. Guerriero over the head with a liquor bottle. Guerriero was treated at Ellis Hospital for a cut that required three staples to close.
    Guerriero was charged with one count of third-degree assault, accused of hitting Rivera in the face repeatedly with a closed fi st. Rivera suffered swelling and redness. She was treated by paramedics, according to papers.

Weapon charges follow incident on Victory Ave.

    SCHENECTADY — A man was arrested late Sunday after fi ring a stolen gun at another man on a porch, authorities said.
    No one was injured.
    James Williams, 28, of Grove Street, was arrested just after 11:30 Sunday night on multiple felony counts, accused of fi ring several rounds at a 50-year-old man standing on a Victory Avenue porch, according to papers filed in court.
    Williams allegedly fired four times, missing each time. Three of the shots struck the front of the house, one of them going through the front window and hitting a wall in the living room.
    Inside the home at the time was the other man’s wife and 17-yearold nephew. Both were uninjured.
    Williams was arrested a short time later. He was stopped by police and allegedly initially gave them a false name. Williams faces one count each of first-degree reckless endangerment, seconddegree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, all felonies, and false personation, a misdemeanor.
    The stolen property count comes as the gun he was allegedly found with, a .357-caliber Ruger revolver, was reported stolen in 2008 in Georgia.
    Inside the gun, police found a total of six spent shell casings.

draws felonies

    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces a robbery count, accused of stealing his ex-girlfriend’s eye glasses and then biting her, authorities said.
    Joseph Bell, 24, of Crane Street, was charged Monday with one count of second-degree robbery, and third-degree grand larceny, felonies, along with third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, misdemeanors.
    Bell is accused of taking the woman’s glasses, along with $25 and her car on April 15 at her Crane Street residence. Bell also allegedly bit the woman in the forehead and right hand.

with endangering

    SCHENECTADY — A man faces misdemeanor counts for inappropriately touching a girl, police said. Roger G. Dukes, of 15 Lori Drive, was charged Saturday with endangering the welfare of a child and forcible touching, misdemeanors.
    City police began investigating Saturday evening when three girls stopped officers and told them that Dukes had harassed them and touched one inappropriately moments before at Albany Street and Brandywine Avenue, police spokesman Officer Matthew Dearing said. Dukes was found in the area by police. After an investigation, he was charged. Dukes was also wanted on an outstanding warrant. The nature of the warrant was unclear.

    SCHENECTADY — A city man is accused of shooting out a window of a building.
    Wayne D. Young, 40, of 216 Jackson Ave., was charged Friday with discharging a firearm and felony reckless endangerment.
    Police were called to Jackson Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. Friday for a report of shots fi red. Responding police found multiple shell casings at the rear of the building and soon found guns inside the house, police spokesman Officer Matthew Dearing said.

Store incident leads to felony charge
    SCHENECTADY — A man accused of trying to steal merchandise from a store now faces an attempted robbery count on allegations of punching a security guard trying to stop him, authorities said.
    Michael Saglimbeni, 49, of 712 Union St., was charged Wednesday with one count of third-degree attempted robbery, a felony.
    Saglimbeni is accused of trying to take merchandise from Ocean State Job Lot in Crosstown Plaza just before 6 p.m. April 14. When confronted by a security guard, Saglimbeni allegedly punched the guard. In an ensuing struggle, Saglimbeni dropped the merchandise and ran, according to papers fi led in court.

    SCHENECTADY — A Rotterdam man faces a felony, accused of fleeing a traffic stop and fi ghting with officers, authorities said.
    Michael Peabody, 54, of 1066 Curry Road, was charged Tuesday with one count each of second-degree assault, a felony, as well as resisting arrest and aggravated unlicensed operation, misdemeanors.
    Peabody is accused of fl eeing a traffic stop just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at State and Swan streets. When officer Steven Bernard caught up with him, Peabody allegedly struggled, injuring Bernard by causing multiple scrapes and cuts. Bernard was treated by paramedics, according to papers filed in court.
    Peabody’s license had been suspended. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants, according to papers. The nature of the warrants was unclear.

man of role in
gang beating

    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces high-level assault and robbery counts, accused of participating in a beating in April that left a man with a broken leg, authorities said.
    Shamel Ward, 18, of 14 Moyston St., was arrested Thursday, charged with one count each of fi rst-degree assault, first-degree gang assault and fi rst-degree robbery.
    Ward is accused of being among five men who assaulted a 38-yearold man just before 3 a.m. April 2 on Moyston Street, according to papers filed in court.
    The group allegedly repeatedly kicked and punched the man while he was on the ground.
    He suffered a broken leg in the attack and spent three days at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, according to papers.
    The group also took the man’s cellphone, his glasses, $500 in cash and personal papers, according to papers.
    Ward was also charged this week with two counts each of third-degree criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance, felonies.
    Ward is accused of possessing and selling cocaine at his residence April 14 and 25, according to papers.


Woman accused
of injuring officer

    SCHENECTADY — A woman allegedly attempting to prevent police from arresting another person and got arrested herself, accused of injuring a police offi cer, authorities said.
    Essence Atkins, 22, of 880 Emmett St., was charged Tuesday with one count of second-degree assault, a felony, along with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, misdemeanors.
    Atkins is accused of fi ghting with Officer Michael Wood just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, injuring the side of Wood’s face and his right arm. Wood was treated by paramedics, according to papers filed in court.
    She also allegedly tried to prevent officers from arresting another person, according to papers.

Sunday stabbing,
suspect unknown

    SCHENECTADY — A man was transported to Albany Medical Center on Sunday afternoon after being stabbed in the chest, police said.
    Officers responded to the fi rst floor apartment at 917 Lincoln Ave. around 3 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call that a man had been stabbed in the chest. Police would not release the man’s name and did not know his condition.
    Police are still searching for the suspect, who was lasting seen running on Craig Street. The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information should contact the Schenectady Police Department at 382-5200.

Cab driver robbed
of cash at gunpoint

    SCHENECTADY — More than $100 in cash was stolen from a cab driver Sunday morning in a gunpoint robbery, police said.
    The cab driver was stopped outside of 780 State St. at 1:40 a.m. when another male approached him with a handgun and demanded money, according to Patrolman Matthew Dearing. The suspect ran away with about $120 in cash. The cab driver then drove to the police station to report the robbery, Dearing said.
    The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information should call the Schenectady Police Department at 382-5200.

burglary charge

    SCHENECTADY — A city teen faces a felony burglary count, accused of breaking into a woman’s home and threatening her with a knife, authorities said.
    Tyler Park, 17, of 915 Pleasant St., was charged Wednesday with one count each of second-degree burglary and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor.
    Park is accused of breaking into an Eastern Avenue residence around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and swinging a knife at a female resident, according to papers fi led in court.

    SCHENECTADY — A Ballston Spa man faces felony charges, accused of taking a gun and jewelry from relatives, authorities said.
    Brett Fitzgerald, 26, of 88 Maple Ave., was charged Wednesday with one count each of third- and fourthdegree grand larceny, felonies.
    Fitzgerald is accused of taking a .25-caliber Sundance semi-automatic handgun from his stepfather on Duane Avenue in April, according to papers filed in court.
    Fitzgerald is also accused of taking more than $4,500 worth of jewelry from his mother May 9, according to papers.

False documents
charged to woman

    SCHENECTADY — A city woman stands accused of falsifying documents and submitting them to social services to get day care services she wasn’t entitled to, authorities said.
    Shayna Rodriguez, 23, of Steuben Street, was charged Thursday with a total of 17 counts of fi rst-degree offering a false instrument for fi ling, a felony, and one count of petty larceny, a misdemeanor.
    Rodriguez is accused of falsifying time sheets her supervisor at her job did not execute, according to papers filed in court, then submitting those to social services for reimbursement of day care services provided.
    She allegedly falsified the documents from June to October 2010, receiving $565 in day care services she wasn’t entitled to, according to papers.
    Each felony count relates to a different document allegedly falsified.

Man accused of witness threats
    SCHENECTADY — Police accused a city man of breaking into an apartment Wednesday and threatening a witness in a case.
    Andre L. Epps, 20, of 32 McClellan St. broke into a residence at 1141 Albany St. just after 10 p.m. by kicking in the front door. He smashed two windows and two televisions and stole the victim’s medication, police said, and also told the resident, “I’m going to kill you.”
    The victim is a witness to a robbery and assault that occurred in March at 5 Elbert St. and is going to testify before a grand jury, according to papers filed in court.
    Epps was charged with felony counts of second- and third-degree criminal mischief and a misdemeanor count of tampering with a witness.

Two charged with
growing marijuana

    SCHENECTADY — Two men were accused this week of growing marijuana in their home.
    Devin S. Conway, 23, and Daniel G. Attanasio, 23, both of 613 Seneca St., were found with 34 pot plants in a back bedroom, according to police.
    Both were charged Tuesday with a felony count of second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and a misdemeanor count of unlawfully growing cannabis.

Long Island man accused of DWI
    SCHENECTADY — A Suffolk County man was arrested early Thursday on drunken-driving charges.
    Jeffrey A. Brous, 22, of Setauket, was stopped at the intersection of Park Place and Roger Hull Place just before 2 a.m., police said.
    He was charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated, as well as an equipment violation.

Woman accused of forging prescription   
  SCHENECTADY — Police arrested a city woman Tuesday for allegedly forging a prescription.
    Ashley G. Clark, 27, of 565 Nott St., took a prescription for 10 tablets of the painkiller Lortab and altered it to say 30 tablets, according to papers filed in court.
    Clark was charged with felony counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument and forgery of prescriptions.

MVP employee held after threats
    SCHENECTADY — An MVP employee was taken into custody Wednesday under the state’s Mental Health Law after police said he threatened violence against coworkers.
    The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. at the health insurer’s downtown headquarters. The man’s co-workers felt he needed a psychological evaluation after he made threats against people in the building, so they called police, according to city police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Dearing.
    The man, whose name was not released, was transported to Ellis Hospital. No further information was available.
    MVP spokesman Gary Hughes said the company has a policy of not commenting on internal personnel matters.

    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces burglary and child endangerment counts, accused of breaking into his estranged wife’s home and breaking items, authorities said.
    Ralph White, 45, of 927 State St., was charged Saturday with one count of second-degree burglary, a felony, along with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of second-degree criminal contempt.
    White is accused of breaking in a door at the Catherine Street residence around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, then entering and throwing multiple items. Four children were present at the time, according to papers fi led in court.
    White allegedly knocked a bassinet from its base with his 3-weekold daughter inside. The child’s mother caught the infant, who suffered no serious injury.
    He also allegedly slapped a cup of hot soup from his 8-year-old son’s hand, causing hot liquid to spill on the child, according to papers. No injuries were reported.

Woman bluffs man trying to break in
    SCHENECTADY — A woman’s announcement that she was on the phone with police was enough to scare off a man trying to break into her apartment Friday, authorities said.
    Carlos Velasquez, 23, of 219 Elm St., was charged Friday with second-degree burglary and thirddegree criminal mischief, both felonies.
    Velasquez is accused of smashing the front door at a Main Street home just before 2 p.m., then breaking partially through a secondary door, all while threatening to kill the resident and destroy her property, according to papers fi led in court.
    When the resident yelled that she was on the phone with police, he left, according to papers.
    He was arrested a short time later.

    SCHENECTADY — A woman accused of taking $25 worth of items from a city store faces a highlevel felony after allegedly pulling a knife on a security guard trying to stop her, authorities said.
    Sonia Thomas, 44, no address given, was charged Monday with first-degree robbery, a felony, and petty larceny, a misdemeanor.
    Thomas is accused of taking batteries, baby items and socks, valued at $25, from the Yankee One Dollar store in Crosstown Plaza on Jan. 22. When she was confronted by a security guard, she pulled a knife and threatened him, according to papers filed in court.

Suspect allegedly
swallowed cocaine
    SCHENECTADY — A man being booked on charges of damaging a car found himself facing additional charges Tuesday, including a felony, after police said he swallowed one of three baggies of cocaine he was carrying.
    Kenneth Franklin, 46, of 11 Paulding St., was accused of damaging the side window of a van on Eastern Avenue and Walnut Street just before midnight Monday, according to papers filed in court.
    He was arrested a short time later, but while he was being booked at the police station, Franklin swallowed a baggie believed to contain cocaine, attempting to destroy it as evidence, according to the court papers. Officers recovered two other baggies on him, each of which tested positive for cocaine, according to those papers.
    Franklin was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, in connection with the van allegations, but was also charged with one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, for the two baggies that were reportedly seized and a felony count of tampering with physical evidence and a misdemeanor count of obstructing governmental administration for the baggie he allegedly swallowed.
    Franklin is being held without bail at the Schenectady County jail.
