Who is addressing our problem with unequal assessment...Thats our problem...getting your assessment changed doesnt do a thing ( for all the Town residents )..we need to get the people who arent paying their fair share to PAY....example...take a look at Shardan Court !!!!!!!!!

Until this gets fixed, we will just keep paying

Biaggio,  the little know secret that the GOP doesn't want folks to know is that Tommasone turned down
the $70,000 a year state grant that would have helped keep the asessment rolls current.   It boils down
to this --- we needed the Reval to undo 50 years of neglect and get the tax rolls at 100% .. we paid over
$700,000 for it  - and THEN the GOP Supervisor and GOP Town Board refused the funding to keep it
accurate.
The simple analogy is this -- a person pays $1,000 to have a new engine put in your car and are offered $100 a year to cover routine maintenance to keep the engine working properly -- and then the person refuses
the $100 and doesn't do the routine maintenance.
That is why the current Supervisor and Town Board and the new Assessor should be researching how to
requalify for that state grant and how to get the tax rolls back at 100% again and keep it that way.

If JM handles assessment complaints the way he did during the GAR reval he won't last too long in that position.

hell has frozen over

DVoR and Tippy in agreement on a strong issue

now if we can get properties reassessed every 6 years on a schedule not building permits or sales we'd be good to go!

next we will work on that party crap,

The fact is........he DIDN'T handle any complaints during the rotterdam gar reval. He referred rotterdamians to the gar people.

Well -- at this point we can't change what happened in the past.  One can only hope that steps will take
starting now and going forward to get all the tax rolls back up to date and to resolve any problems with
assessments either too high or too low.

It has been rather cold lately -  actually, we probably agree on more issues than you might be willing
to admit.

That's exactly right BT he did nothing but refer people to the GAR people who did nothing as well but it was JM's job to check on these complaints to see if there were errors being made.

It was also Mr. Tomassone's job to review  GAR's work --- the supervisor is the Chief Financial Officer
of the town by state law  AND - in this case - the contract with GAR stated that the Supervisor had the
responsibility to review GAR's work, report any problems and, eventually, sign off on the corrected report.

Personally, i think Rotterdam should have a full-time professional Town Administrator - who would report to
the Supervisor and Town Board - and run Town Hall on a daily basis.

Honestly DV would you want the supervisor to asses your house, get serious it has to be the assessor as no one else is qualified unless you pay someone to do it.

No -- the supervisor does not do the assessing -- but the assessor reports to the supervisor.  And in the
case of the Reval, the then Supervisor had both a statutory and contractual OBLIGATION to review the
report .... and because the then Supervisor did NOT believe in the Reval  ... he stuck the report in the
storage room and let it sit there for months.

The Supervisor does not do the assessing but you sure as heck want and need a Supervisor who is willing and capable to carry out his/her statutory duty to act as the Chief Financial Officer of the town.

I FOIL it

but,

not only could the report most likely not be found
nor could the FOIL Officer

and i would most likely have to pay a finders fee on both

The Deputy Town Clerk will process the FOIL application --- whether the report can be found is anybody's
guess -- and you pay for copies NOT a finder's fee.

I hear thats why JM was hired.  The whole board was very impressed with his interview, knowledge of the town and vast experience.  His resume was quite impressive by Rotterdam standards I am told.  Time will tell.
