who are you going to give the FOIL to

the FOIL Officer????

better buy a plane ticket

You fill out the FOIL request at the Town Clerk's office - the First Deputy Town Clerk takes care of that ..
and then it goes down the hall to the Deputy Supervisor.    You don't need a plane ticket to do that.

This is common practice when the same person serves as Assessor for more than one municipality.  For example, CS was (while he was Rotterdam's) and still is the Assessor for the Town of New Lebanon.   Our new Assessor has probably been informed by the Admin that he can work whatever hours fit his schedule as long as he can get his work done (friends & family adjustments).  Not a bad gig...although if I had a choice, I'd take the Town Clerk's job in Rotterdam...there is NO requirement to show up at Town Hall...EVER!!

If this weren't true, JM wouldn't be the new part time assessor. But he is, so you are correct. He fits right in with this bunch!!

BT-why do you feel the need to bash every Dem in town?  No complaints about Macejka in Guilderland.  And as I recall none in Rotterdam before the ST and the boys started fighting with him.

As an earlier post indicated, the new Assessor is one of the good ole boys!   He won't be required to adhere to a schedule...as long as he fulfills his friends and family duties.   And you'll probably see less of him than you will EE!  ROTFLMAO

Then, despite my personal admiration for Mr Macejka, this needs to be addressed and nipped in the bud NOW.

I don't believe that for a minute.  He never dogged his duty before.  He won't now.  You guys are over-reacting.  And you have to remember what a disaster the Surprise package was.

Who is addressing our problem with unequal assessment...Thats our problem...getting your assessment changed doesnt do a thing ( for all the Town residents )..we need to get the people who arent paying their fair share to PAY....example...take a look at Shardan Court !!!!!!!!!

Until this gets fixed, we will just keep paying

The complaints started when the assessments were put online and everyone could compare how out of range their's was to other neighbors.  How many years (decades) was FDGs assessment ridiculously low, and who picked up the tab for that "error" for all those years?  If people don't have easy access to assessments, you can't do the comparisons.  Once it was on the website, it became a new ball game!  It became far to transparent to continue with the shenanigans, IMO.

Not true...Complained myself...STAR was not filed two years in a row, and he would not come out of the back office to address me directly, he made his assistant answer my questions.  And you can imagine by the second year when this happened AGAIN, I was pretty angry and wanted to talk to the idiot in charge.

A friend of mine that grew up in Rotterdam and now lives in Guilderland was told by his family members (who are prominent local democrats) to stay away from JM.

What's funny is, he was making about $55K as a full time assessor, and now he's getting $33K as a part-time assessor.  If he's only required to only spend half the time as a full-time assessor, he made out on this deal.

Just keep on giving the Town away.  Friends and Family goes on.

The problem started when the past administration that was against the Reval wanted to make GAR, Paolino and Macejka look bad and when they lowered there friends and family assesment's needed a way to make up for what they gave away and went after selected properties in the Town: not just FDG but others also. then they promised a lawsuit against GAR that they never even persued its all Smoke and Mirrors people WAKE UP IMHO

AGREED, there was a lot of political wrangling going on, and blame passing that never seemed to land on anyone specifically.  Addressing what to do for residents regarding assessments, they first need to evaluate if they indeed have a case to complain by comparing similar homes, similar lot sizes, and same neighborhood.  You need at least three for comparables.  Schedule a meeting with the BAR for grievance day, be prepared to lose at this level since they rarely concur.  Follow the steps and procedures to go to Small Cliaims Court.  You will get a much fairer evaluation of your grievance at this level, unfortunately.  With respect to the BAR, the new chair of the BAR is a great choice and hopefully will be a big improvement.  Prior BARs were as political as the whole assessment process was, IMO.

The only way the residents were able to get a fair assessment in the city was thru small claims court. When the judge had the assessments evaluated they dropped. I know one individual whose assessment was $106,000 for a house built in 1920 with no improvements that was lowered to $82,000 after the judge had it re-assessed by an independent assessor.

Jigs.............that is old news! Everyone knows it. The point is that in rotterdam, there has 'always' been the 'select' few that got the wink and nod and hand shake for their assessment. That has been going on for decades until, and as AVON pointed out........this information is now available on-line.

JM was just as guilty and yet 'he's back'.  Who was the assessor while FDG's property was under assessed while he continued to add-on to his property? Go figure....only in Rotterdam.

And while all of this rotterdam bullcrap goes on..........the rest of the taxpayers are picking u p the slack for the 'choosen'!
