dont even worry about the buildings....with the tech available today the should/better go down....make parents responsible for the purchase of their
Ipad/laptop whatever and there goes a whole bunch of cost savings to the school districts....just like in healthcare jobs WILL be eliminated....
the only thing the school district taxes would be responsible for would be sports/music/art facilities and teacher salaries and administrative salaries.......

if there was no flat tax (yet) then parents could claim the Ipads/laptops on their taxes and write off educational expenses....all sport/music/art programs
would be funded based on the interest and 'fee' paid by the student/parent.....

Comcast-NBC Merger: Read the FCC Approval Letter

These commitments include:
Broadband Adoption and Deployment.  Comcast will make available to approximately 2.5 million low income households: (i) high-speed Internet access service for less than $10 per month; (ii) personal computers, netbooks, or other computer equipment at a purchase price below $150; and (iii) an array of digital-literacy education opportunities.  Comcast will also expand its existing broadband networks to reach approximately 400,000 additional homes, provide broadband Internet access service in six additional rural communities, and provide free video and high-speed Internet service to 600 new anchor institutions, such as schools and libraries, in underserved, low-income areas.

Localism. To further broadcast localism, Comcast-NBCU will maintain at least the current level of news and information programming on NBC’s and Telemundo’s owned-and-operated (“O&O”) broadcast stations, and in some cases expand news and other local content.  NBC and Telemundo O&O stations also will provide thousands of additional hours of local news and information programming to their viewers, and some of its NBC stations will enter into cooperative arrangements with locally focused nonprofit news organizations.  Additional free, on-demand local programming will be made available as well.

Children’s Programming. Comcast-NBCU will increase the availability of children’s programming on its NBC and Telemundo broadcast stations, and add at least 1,500 more choices to Comcast’s on-demand offerings for children.  It will provide additional on-screen ratings information for original entertainment programming on the Comcast-NBCU broadcast and cable television channels and improved parental controls.  Comcast-NBCU also will restrict interactive advertising aimed at children 12 years old and younger and provide public service announcements addressing children’s issues.

Programming Diversity. Building on Comcast’s voluntary commitments in this area, we require Comcast-NBCU to increase programming diversity by expanding its over-the-air programming to the Spanish language-speaking community, and by making NBCU’s Spanish-language broadcast programming available via Comcast’s on demand and online platforms.  As noted above, Comcast also will add at least 10 new independent channels to its cable offerings.

Public, Educational, and Governmental (“PEG”) Programming. Comcast will safeguard the continued accessibility and signal quality of PEG channels on its cable television systems and introduce new on demand and online platforms for PEG content.

Cuomo and Obama are strong supporters of Charter Schools. They seem to understand school choice. DVR's plan is a big nothing that will go nowhere.

Cuomo is very supportive of consolidating school districts.    We just need to change his mind about Charter schools and then he will be the perfect governor.

Which really means, government dictating to parents where they must send their children to school.  It means ONLY the rich can choose how and where their children get educated, it could be a religious affiliated school if one has such a strong faith feeling or it could be a prestigious uppity private academy.

But if you are struggling in this crappy economy, then you must send your child to a failing school, if your child get's bullied it's tough sh*t because you have no choice.

DV, why do you opposed parents having the right to choose their child's education.  Or, to clarify, why would you deny choice for parents who can't afford tuition?   I have proven to you that there are NO FINANCIAL AID programs in Schenectady that will pay for most of the tution.  So can you WHY you would deny parents a choice?

If you choose to send your children to a Charter School ... pay tuition to cover the cost ...like those of us who send children to parochial schools.    Public tax dollars should only be spent on public schools -- period.

If the public school in your district has a 50% non graduation rate then people should have the choice to send their kids to a charter school with their tax money. Why should the taxpayer have to pay twice, once for the public school and again for the charter school?

The purpose of charter schools is to have the same government regs as parochial schools(and they do only they aren't written down
because they have a UN vote, pay attention) and if one is NOT associated with catholic religion why should they be bullied into the
'other' choice?.....honestly? I'm not making fun or berating here......you have a religious school with MINIMAL regs/goals etc....

the ultimate that folks look for in schooling is self control and responsibility(personal delusion)....the knowledge is just a cover....
because without a certain amount of self control and responsibility there IS NO LEARNING.....GET IT?

Parachial schools in the Albany Diocese meet all of the states regs and goals voluntarily.

I am surprised that you have no problem with taxpayer dollars going to fund Charter Schools ... which technically are set up as "private non-profit organizations"  and yet you opposed a tax district for REMS which is also a "private non-profit organization".
My only objection to Charter Schools is that the property owners can not vote for the budget and school board of the Charter School.   The Charter School gets the taxpayers dollars and the taxpayer has absolutely NOsay in the budget or board.    Charter Schools are NOT accountable  ---   that basically is  TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.
So it seems on this issue -- I am more conservative than the so-called conservatives.

AGAIN, you REFUSE to address the issue.

HOW do lower income people pay tuition???????    WHERE DV, WHERE do the lower income people get the money from to pay tuition??????

I have proven to you (diocesan website and NDBG and the amount of assistance parents get is very very very minimal, perhaps $500 a year.
Therefore, DV, tell us HOW parents can pay $6,000 a year for tuition?????

YOUR words are that parents can send their children to other schools and pay tuition.  What you are REALLY saying is that ONLY THE RICH are allowed to choose their children's education.   The lower income people, people who may have had decent incomes but got laid off in this economy, those people are supposed to abide by some government dictatorship when it comes to education.

So, anwer the question......   Why are YOU opposed to lower income people having a choice in the education of their children?????

I believe ---- at least that is what I was taught --- that we fought the American Revolution to end taxation without representation.    Our founding fathers would not have supported private schools  (in this case Charter Schools) taking tax dollars away from public schools.

Surprisingly or maybe not so surprising , those who claim to be so "authentically American" with their "tea party thinking" ... really don't know their history ... don't really know what the American Revolution was all about ... nor what America's founding principles were.     They are really "cafeteria Americans" ... they pick and choose which times to go by the original intent of our Constitution and other founding documents --- and which times to just toss them aside to push their own foolish ideas.

Hey DV, if you CHOOSE to go to Proctors, pay for it YOURSELF.  Public tax dollars should ONLY be spent on vital necessary services period.

Hey DV, if you CHOOSE to go to a gym pay for it YOURSELF.  Public tax dollars should ONLY be spent on vital necessary services period.

Hey DV, if you CHOOSE to go to a gin mill, pay for it YOURSELF.  Public tax dollars should ONLY be spent on vital necessary services period.

Hey DV, if you CHOOSE to go east burritos, pay for it YOURSELF.  Public tax dollars should ONLY be spent on vital necessary services period.

Theaters, gyms, hotels, hair-salons, gin mills, catering halls, coffee shops, etc are NOT in any way, manner, shape or form, a vital necessary service the should be paid for by the taxpayers.   Police are being cut, streets are not being plowed, etc, but tax money is going to gin mills, hair-salons, coffeeshops, theaters, burrito bars, a gym,....to name a FEW.

HOW is it tax money should be spent on a PRIVATE hair-do school, but NOT on a grade school providing a necessary basic education.
