The REAL reason you refuse to reply, therefore, is because I am publicizing lots of truths......truths about raising the taxes on the little people in Schenectady in order to pay for all the millionaires' taxes downtown......while the people and the neighborhoods suffer with increasing problems that often cause loss of life

the family gatherings .. the other dish that I make that my family loves is Swedish Meatballs -- that is
one recipe that I am NOT sharing with anyone for less than say $25,000.

So, tell us how much food the Mallozzi's are feeding the financially struggling homeowners in the city -- those homeowners who pay Mallozzi's taxes?   Can you tell us that DV?   Why is Mallozzi's being so uppity by not feeding Schenectady's families considering Schenectady's famlies are struggling and are paying Mallozzi's taxes?

He-she (MC)  is just a troublemaker .. if I post something positive about anything he-she has to

THe Mallozzi family owns Villa Italia which used to be on Hamburg St.  They are indeed a very well heeled family and business.  And admittedly, their food is really good, both at the banquet place on Curry and at the bakery.    Villa Italia is now on Broadway, courtesy of a hefty handout from the taxpayers via the Susan Savage/Ray Gillen (Metroplex)/Son of Sam team.  So they moved jobs from Hamburg St to Broadway, certainly not creating lots of good paying jobs so desparately needed.

The normal total annual household income in the city of Schenectady is just $30,000.  Obviously, on that income, it's difficult for the families in the city to pay property taxes.  Even on an income of $40,000 it's difficult.  Sure, homeowners always have concerned about property and school taxes, especially when essential services (such as putlic safety) are being cut following a decade of a substantially rising crime rate (stats publicly presented by NYS Criminal Justice).

"Thanks" to the political crap going on in Schenectady, the Savage/Gillen/Stratton team have given Mallozzis property on Broadway (location of Villa Italiz) a total, 100% exemption from paying property and school taxes....the information about assessement, tax exemptions, etc is public information and can be found by using the county website.   They simply do not get a tax bill.  Well, they probably get a "bill" which, like residential homeowners receive, will state the property address, the assessed value, the market value, the uniform percentage figure, the equalization rate, and then comes the key piece of information..... Exemption - 100%  Tax bill $0.00

Of course, you know that the city, and the school district, respectively, still needs to get the revenue that would otherwise be collected from the Villa Italia property.  The property taxes  and the school taxes are increased higher than they ordinarily would be for the residential homeowners in the city.  Mallozzi's got a handout from the taxpayers to have that building downtown.  Sure, they might have made some investiment too.  But many homeowners also make investments in their own properties but do not get any handouts.  The taxes in Schenectady are one of the highest in the whole United States.  People do not buy homes in the city.  THerefore, those that do have houses who wish to sell and move out of Schenectady are stuck because they can't sell, so they are stuck paying their own property and school taxes and then the tax bills are higher than they ordinarily would be because they cover the taxes of Mallozzi's as well.

With a million dollar business, the Mallozzi family can easily afford to pay the property and school taxes on the Villa Italia.  Homeowners are financially struggling.

A point that needs to be made here, an extremely important point, is that it is not only Mallozzi's property.  I did some "research" if you want to call it that, and came up with a list of a number of the more well known properties in downtown that have been fixed up with taxpayer dollars via Metroplex.  The post contained the property assessments and the percent of tax exemption.  Virutally all properties/businesses that were among the Metroplex projects under the "command" of Susan Savage, Ray Gillen, and Mayor Stratton, have been given 100% tax exemptions.  And I AM talking for-profit businesses, businesses that are worth millions.  Proctor's also does not pay property taxes, it is called a not-for-profit, but anyone with a brain and an ounce of common sense knows full well that a grand theater with lavish Broadway productions at the prices they charge, is most definitely a for profit business regardless of what the politically connected legally define them.  

Collectively, the residential homeowners are paying a fortune to pay the property and school tax bills of these businessses downtown.  These businesses can well afford to pay their own tax bills.

So, my rationale in the question to DV, is to ask when is Mallozzi's giving out food to the Schenectady families that probably go without meals in order to pay Mallozzi's tax bill (on the Villa Italia).  DV never answers.  I ask him if it is proper for financially struggling lower income people to be paying property tax bills on millionaire businesses - again he refuses to answer.  

On their Rotterdam banquet business, I'm guessing they pay the property and school taxes (gee, I should look that up).  But there was a story maybe early this year, that Mallozzi's Curry Rd properties were hooked up to town sewers yet they were not paying sewer fees as is required of homeowners who are connected to town sewers, but I'm not sure of the resoluation of that issue when it was brought up.

That was quite a good explanation and gave a lot more detail than I knew.  I am familiar with the family businesses, as I am originally from Rotterdam.  When the church bought their property on Hamburd street, I didn't understand why Rotterdam politics didn't try to keep them in the area.  I did some research, too, and from personal conversations found that the move to downtown also has given them a higher business exposure from lunch crowd and after theater crowd.  With all that aside, I understand whre you are coming from.  Unfortunately that is how government attracts business to where they want them to be.  In Syracuse the city, county,town and NY State gave the develpers of the local mall tax exemptions and empire zone exemptions and special finanacing and financial investments, etc.,....with the develper not pitching in a single dime.  Today the doubling of the mall is still not done after 5+ years, and the bank has stopped funding, so now it's a court battle....and oh by the way....developer didn't spend any money and pays less taxes now than before the deal, because of the deal.  Really sucks, doesn't it.

Anyway, I was also hopng for a simple way to check tax payments.  In this area I can go to the county tax website and it shows what tax assessments are and payment history, etc.  Thanks again for the info.

MC very good points, but why do you only single out the Mallozzi's, there are several millionaires on State Street that are in the same situation. Do you have something personal against them?

Oh, by all means NO.  I've been to the banquet place a couple time for, well, banquets.  Villa Italia has always been a good place for bakery stuff.  Oh, sure, I wish it was more convenient to get to them downtown.  Hate State St and the bottleneck traffic and we'll usually go, I'll drive and Chris will hop out and I'll drive around blocks until she comes out or vice versa.  

The topic of this particular thread is Mallozzi's, thus they've been sort of singled out in this, specifically because it's about food and there are people in Schenectady city who must cut back on meals because they are paying Mallozzi's taxes, thus, I ask if Mallozzi is doing to do anything for them.

But you'll notice in other posts, in particular the "outside Rotterdam" section, I write more in general terms about the "millionaires downtown" or the "rich" or the "well heeled."   Regardless of which term is used, those places downtown are stealing from the hardworking, financially struggling residents.  And it's about damn time it should stop.  Most people, I'm guessing, think of Metroplex as all these projects funded with the extra sales tax.  And that seems to have less impact on people.  Unfortunately I don't think that the average residential taxpayer in the city of Schenectady knows that they are paying the property & school taxes for these places downtown.  Wide publicity needs to be given to them and explained in a way they can really grasp the connection between their tax bill, the loss of services, the decline of the city, and the handouts to the rich downtown.

In defense of MC1, not that s/he needs any defense, they placed a thread here with tax info of the business on the miracle block of state street. They are all pretty much tax exempt. MC1 has been spot on when posting about tax exemptions for the businesses and the high taxes for the residents. The residents can't hang in there too much longer.

Independent candidates should be considered for future elections if people are looking for change. Research them, pick your candidate/s and support them for change. IMHO
