Rotterdam Republicans and the town's No New Taxes Party are trying to bury the hatchet that essentially resulted in Democrats taking control of town government.
Tracy Donovan, new town GOP chairwoman, is credited with getting the two sides together for a conciliatory meeting last Saturday.
Democrat Frank DelGallo won the 2009 town supervisor election. That happened because the Republican vote split between then incumbent GOP Supervisor Steve Tommasone and No New Taxes candidate Brian McGarry. McGarry is interested in another supervisor run, this time as a Republican. Despite being a political unknown, he did well, collecting about 20 percent of the vote with his Tea Party-type campaign.
It is known that Tommasone also wants the endorsement, but GOP insiders privately prefer backing McGarry, a political neophyte compared to Tommasone. They believe it's time for new blood and a much more fresh look.
They may have a good point. When it comes to Tommasone, forget the old saying, ''three-time loser.'' Through the years, he's lost four town elections.
I wonder who has been talking to Marv Cermak ? It sounds like an enemy of Steve is really trying to persuade the public. Steve lost and showed tenacity by staying with the party and ended up winning. Unlike many candidates that when they loose once they are two afraid to go after it again. Most of us know how hard it is to get through to the general public. Many do not pay any attention and go in there and just press a lever. Anyway, to all who read this: We did have a meeting on Saturday and that meeting went very well. A vote was not taken, but we are all working together for the greater Our meeting was professional. No one called people names or "three-time" loser comments. Despite all of the turmoil in the 2009 election SteveT lost by very little. Just something to be noted.
The article is inaccurate in stating that the two sides met. My understanding is that Brian McGarry was invited by Tracey to meet with her and about 1/2 dozen other Republicans in response to a letter written by him requesting an interview for the town Republican party endorsement for Town Supervisor. I understand from speaking with Brian that he will be making similar requests of the party chairpersons of the Conservative and Independence parties.
While (at least some of) the other founders of the NNTP movement would welcome an opportunity to meet with the town and county Republican party leaders, there is no agreement. The plan to form a county-wide independent ballot line that embraces candidates who possess right of center values and ideals, particularly in regards to spending and taxation, is being discussed. Although I no longer reside in Schenectady County, I have offered my full support and that of many of my like minded friends and family to support conservative candidates to wrest control of county, town, and city offices from the liberal tax and spend Democrats. A fundraiser for Brian McGarry is being planned for late January.
TD should be supported for arranging a sit down but since when did they join forces? Nothing of the sort. Brian McGarry is a Draper Grad, highly qualified and should be the unity Supervisor candidate. If you're upset now wait until you hear the proposed TB candidates.

I don't think this was an 'enemy of steve' thing. Perhaps Mr. Cermak just did some 'investigative reporting' and put his own words to it. I applaud your efforts, but your opening statement makes it appear that this article was almost a 'smear campaign' against ST. I NEVER read it that way at all. Not a good move for future political positioning.
Putting that aside, it is refreshing to think that the reps are entertaining a 2 line run.....the rep line and the nntp line. But rotterdamians should not get that warm and fuzzy feeling over this. After all, we are talking rotterdam where bullsh!t walks and money talks.......people are defined by their politics........and revenge is paramount. IMHO of course.

I don't think he is good for business because he has no idea about business or what the Rotterdam business owners need. He was very unimpressive at meeting a few months ago and referred to business owners as "chirping." Bad move McGarry. No wonder his mother was a huge Liberal.
The only way that a merger between the Reps and the NNTP will work is if the Reps adopt some of the conservative values of the NNTP which is what many of the residents want and need to keep taxes as low as possible.
Boomer, you shouldn't be criticizing anyone about not knowing anything about running a business when you and your liberal friends voted for Obama who had zero business experience and zero governing experience.

As far as a joint ticket, unless McGarry is willing to wait until Tommasone has another shot at it, he can forget it. Everyone in town hall already knows that Reps are putting up Tommasone again and the Dems are putting up Godlewski. From what I hear, Parisi told Tommasone if he didn't run again that Parisi would run for supervisor. How McGarry works into this I have no idea.
I would support McGarry too.
